We had the good fortune of connecting with Grant Prata and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grant, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to have more of a family life. I was putting in 60-70 hours a week at my corporate job and decided that I needed a bit more life flexibility. Why sit back and use your skills to make money for someone else? Owning a business is hectic, you still have to put in the hours especially when you are starting up, but you get to manage your own time and aren’t set to a schedule and that was the freedom I was looking for.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our business is celebration and happiness. I own Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery Marietta – East Cobb. We sell gourmet cupcakes, homemade ice cream as well as our new line of cupcake stuffed cookies. One thing that we understand is that most people do not skip the grocery store cupcakes to come buy our gourmet cupcakes for any occasion. Typically we are providing our treats for life’s sweetest events, Birthdays, Graduations, Baby Showers, Weddings, or any other special occasion. With that comes the responsibility of making sure that we don’t stand out for all the wrong reasons. I think something that separates us from other bakeries is our attention to detail and customer service. We want our product to ADD to these events while ensuring that our customers have nothing to worry about when it comes to the desserts! Over the past three years we have gained the trust of the community that Smallcakes East Cobb is going take care of their needs. Word of mouth has been our best friend and we are thankful for all of our customers who continue to trust event after event.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people who have influenced me in my life. I am blessed to have a very supportive family that are all a phone call away at any time. One person that really helped me make the decision is my good buddy Chris Mitchell. He is a friend, mentor, fellow entrepreneur that helped give me the confidence to make the leap and go out on my own. He is always there to answer a question or two, and to share experiences with. Great guy!
