We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanna Fuller-Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joanna, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I credit the success of my brand to the quality of care we provide our clients. As a registered nurse with over 20 years in the industry, I know that the most important thing we can provide is qualified and compassionate caregivers. We take pride in our team. When recruiting we seek out compassionate and patient caregivers. Beyond that we ensure we are attracting and keeping top-caliber talent by paying above industry averages; checking references, certifications, and backgrounds before hiring; treating all of our caregivers with respect; and providing ongoing education and resources. Bottom line, we never put someone in a client’s home that I would not want taking care of my own family members.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Perfect Care Nursing is a private home care provider that carefully matches exceptional caregivers with those requesting support. We take time to get to know our clients and their loved ones so that a close, trusting relationship can grow over the years. I watched my grandmother run a Jewish elderly home in West Baltimore, so I have seen the positive impact of proper care firsthand. After years in corporate, making the decision to start my own business was easy – but actually building the business was grueling! Fortunately I’m blessed with a well of passion, and I have support from brilliant mentors, so Perfect Care Nursing has been able to meet demand and fill a valuable need in the community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a spontaneous person so we could end up anywhere! The first move would be to catch up over breakfast at Snooze, my current favorite breakfast spot. Next stop: Lenox mall for a full day of shopping, only taking breaks to enjoy some local fare. Evening drinks overlooking the city at Ponce City Market would round out the first day, and the rest of the week would most likely be spontaneously guided by our daily whims – perhaps a road trip to Blue Ridge or one of the other mountain ranges in driving distance, explore the city’s restaurants, maybe catch a show at The Fox Theatre. So many options.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Too many to name just one person! I will say, as a whole, nursing school instructors. Not only those who instructed me specifically, but across the board – without excellent nurses, there can’t be excellent care, so every excellent instructor deserves a shoutout. The second isn’t really a person, so much as the corporate challenges that shaped me as a CEO. I think I do a good job of balancing the numbers with the human element of the business.
