Meet Robin Bobo | Co-Owner/Operator and VP of Bobo Enterprises

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Bobo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When my husband and I begin Bobo Enterprises our main goal was to create multiple streams of income in the hope of securing generational wealth for our children’s children and beyond. We have always looked at our last name like an acronym, Black Owned Black Operated: BOBO. The many businesses that fall under the scope of Bobo Emporium are designed to give black people options that are not always available to us by us. Robin’s Resume Renovations focuses on career development. Onyx Candles provides natural scented candles to help with the holistic part of wellness. Bobo Emporium provides affordable space for creatives and families to host private events. Graphics By Bobos allows people to have visuals that they can afford, and Padded RoOm open mic gives artists a safe place to find and share their voice. I haven’t mentioned all that we do but essentially, my business, my family business is to strengthen our community through resources and service.

What should our readers know about your business?
Bobo Enterprises is different from many businesses because we are one of the few businesses that are mastering being a Jack of All Trades. Many times when businesses have so many balls to juggle, they drop some but we put excellent customer service, curating events and products that the people want, and giving back at the top of our list and that is how we continue to win.
We have been in business for 10 years now and we stay true to our brand, truly doing it for the culture before that concept was a popular one. We welcome all but are bold about who are intended audience is and we won’t waiver from that to fit more people’s ideal business prototype. Often people believe to get quality, they have to be overcharged. To receive affordability, they have to have poor service, but what our clients in all avenues of the business receive from us is an above-and-beyond service, at prices they can afford, and from people that often look just like them. It’s the perfect recipe for continued success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If by the area, you mean Chicago, I would start their Sunday at Bobo Emporium Deuce for one of our Versus Sip and Paints. My husband is an HS art teacher, and a phenomenal artist and we host sip and paints featuring icons from black culture. For dinner, I would take them to Doe’s Eatery owned by Doreen Marrow on the west side.
Monday we would swing to Storyville, a New Orleans-themed restaurant on Clark downtown. After that drinks on the Chicago River at Tiny Tap
Tuesday we would hit block 37 for the movies and shopping and then to an open mic in the south suburbs that a friend of mine hosts.
Wednesday I would go to Roanoke downtown for the Monkey Business cocktail and prime rib
Thursday we would be back at Emporium Deuce for Padded RoOm open mic and sophies tacos
Friday I would take them to a Bulls game at the United Center and to the Dearborn for that bomb chicken
Saturday would be southside day; S2 restaurant for breakfast, museum of science and industry, Hyde Park shopping and day drinking, maybe Virtue for an early dinner, and Riddles Comedy club to wrap the night up.
Sunday a stop at Harold’s Chicken before I drop them back at the airport.
That’s a perfect Chicago week!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this to my mother Angelina Welch Williams. My mother has empowered me with all of her gifts, wisdom, and beauty. She has come to all my plays, games, shows, and events. Even as an adult she supports me. Always my first customer, and my staff when I am short. My mother is so talented and amazing and my business, my footprint on this planet is nothing but ancestral wealth from her DNA. I thank God so much for my parents but especially my mother who takes parenthood to the next level no matter my age or stage.
Thank you, mommy!
