We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharde’ Parkman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharde’, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has been pretty consistent with being a Nurse Practitioner and personal trainer. In the mist of working full-time as a healthcare provider, balance is a priority. I accommodate clients who are also working adults to schedule sessions that work for us both. In terms of my personal life, self-care is a part of that balance. I cannot give 100 percent if not taking care of myself in terms of my mental and physical health. Balance is necessary in order to be proficient and successful not only as a Nurse Practitioner but also as a business owner.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My current career is working full-time as an Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner. Where I am today was not easy but worth it all. To be able to serve others through healthcare where becoming a personal trainer is a bonus. Personal trainers are not allowed to give medical advice and with being licensed in the healthcare field. I have the ability to provide suggestions and guidance as long as it does not go against my client’s current plan of care with their primary provider. Both can be challenging where time management plays an important role. Effective time management allows providing quality care for my patients and quality workout sessions for each client.
What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that there is no one size fits all. I am dedicated to building a regimen that will be effective for each client. Also, taking the time to note any issues from a healthcare perspective and making adjustments where required in order to reach any fitness and/or health goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were to visit for a week, it would depend on the season where the Atlanta area has much to do. This area has great places to eat, Six Flags Theme and Water Park, professional games, fun activities, night life, and so much more.
What is most interesting with being in our thirties is finding a place that would fit our personalities and where we are today professionally. Meeting new people and trying new things are a priority in order to not be complacent with the norm or what is considered routine when visiting. There are times where the visit may just be a trip away from home to relax where spas and parks for outdoor hiking are additional options.
I really cannot narrow down specific places or things to check out since I enjoy each time I decide to venture out in the Atlanta or surrounding areas. I would say to check reviews when suggestions are made with being very helpful for decision making.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to God, my close family and friends, and clients who have been there for me through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Thank you for never giving up on me on this journey.
