We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Molly, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Ever since I was little, I’ve always been in the kitchen cooking and baking with my mother and grandmother. Anyone who knows me would say that I’ve always had a dream of having a bakery. It’s been an idea I’ve had with me my whole life. I love those special moments that surround a celebration. I love being able to be a small part of creating those memories for others. In college I studied Nutrition and Food Science. As much as I love how decorative and beautiful cakes and desserts can look, it is equally if not more important to me that they taste good. My background in Food Science gives me the tools I need to ensure that my baking not only looks good but tastes amazing as well. I would say my business really started a few years ago when I started posting on Instagram. A friend reached out to ask if she could buy a cake. It was an immediate “Yes!”. And I thought to myself “It’s starting…finally!”.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a small cake decorating business out of my home. I started in 2019 just by sharing some desserts I’d made on Instagram. I’d always wanted a bakery but didn’t know where to start. A friend reached out to ask if she could order from me, and the rest is history. One thing I’m pretty proud of is this year I had the opportunity to make a wedding cake. I knew that I could do it, but packing the cake in the car and taking it on I-285 was certainly daunting. I don’t think I breathed until we had it on the table at the venue! I’ve definitely learned that practice makes perfect. I didn’t wake up one day being able to make beautiful cakes. It’s taken years of reading blogs, watching videos, cake fails to get to where I am today. I started off just baking for fun with my Mom and Grandmother. I didn’t care how the cakes looked, it was the memories and fun times we spent together. In school I studied Food Science, with this background I’m able to ensure that things not only look pretty, but they really do taste amazing. I truly cherish the times I spent in the kitchen with my family, and it brings me such joy now to be able to be just a small part of other’s special days.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d definitely be doing a food tour and going to many of my favorite food spots. I don’t know about you but I think the Varsity is a must visit if you’ve never been. We’d visit Ponce City Market and grab H& F burger. A stop at Revolution Doughnuts is a must. I think it’s fun to go and walk around the Buford Highway Farmers market, there’s so many cultures and flavors represented there. I didn’t drink coffee until after college, but now I’m addicted. I love Peach Coffee Roasters, they roast in house and have some really unique blends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout my parents for always pushing me to be my best. A question my Dad taught me to ask was “Did I do the best I could today.”. Looking at life through that lens has really pushed me to always do my best in business.
