Meet Kendra Bauser | Owner of Three Peaches Gelato and Coffee

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Bauser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting this business was a a concept born out of pain, the pain of not being able to eat sugar for over a year! I mean what holy hell! LOL but really, I did go through some health issues, cancer being the first that afterwards lead to other things where diet was the only way to really thrive. I mean this is true for everyone of course but sometimes it is made clearer. I also happen to have a huge sweet tooth. In addition Im lactose intolerant. So I started making recipies that would satisfy my sweet cravings in a healthy way and found this was easier than I imagined. Then, in Sicily I was introduced to be best Gelato Id ever encountered and thought, if I bring this stuff State side, Ive got a winner. The great thing about this gelato shop is that they had a nice selection of flavors I could indulge in because they were dairy free. So thats what I did, years later, I went back to that particular gelato shop (Al Gelatone) and studied with the owner to learn how to make gelato. And the timing was great because by then Id discovered so many alternative healthy ingredient substitues for sugar and stabilizers that I could take what I learned in Italy and turn it into what we have now; a low glycemic, dairy free gelato that will blow your mind. I swear you wont miss the bad stuff.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well this business started in 2018 with the dairy free gelato. The goal was to have a shop where you could go and get uplifted with a great latte, and something yummy that wouldnt blow your healthy lifestyle goals but instead compliment them. Staying balanced is the way to stay in shape, emotionally and physically (and mentally really). You cant eat super healthy all the time but what if you had a place to go where you could have a treat, even a shake! that wouldnt veer your off your lifestyle goals, how awesome would that be? A place where, instead of a couple measly vegan, or low sugar options, you had all the options. Thats what I aim to acheive. As far as I can see, the reactions I get daily from customers is what tells me Im on the right path, plus Im having a lot of fun!
Im also wanting to create a family friendly place where parents can take their kids. The shop is bright and warm, with a feeling that if you step outside through some magic door in the back, you’ll be beachside, which is where I want to have the shop one day. Until then when you walk in, be prepared for turqouise floors with glitter and shiplap paneling. We are not your typical coffee shop.
As far as challenges, its been pretty challenging navigating through covid and post covid issues, along with basic challenges of starting a business, but this is what I want to do and Ive gotten so many opportunities through the climate as well, and expect to find more as I search for a second location!
Three Peaches was founded upon the basic premise of satisfaction. I teach my daughters to live a life where compromise is not an option. I wont ever do anything that doesnt give my joy. This has been something Ive worked on brining to life for years that they have been a part of. I want to build this business to show them, as they search for their own ways to never do anything they arent excited about. If you have and keep the passion and fun in what you pursue you will always learn the right lessons and you will succeed. I mean life will challenge you, duh, but if you truly love what you are doing, the challenges seem more like what they are, they are lessons to teach you what you need to know and direct you to your goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my gosh, Im so busy what with having teenagers full time, running a business AND having a whole nother job to pay bills, I dont get out much, so heres my great time in the city… Id take them to one of the amazing walks along the Chattahoochee, then we’d get a latte somewhere, if not my shop then another one of the amazing little coffee shops popping up all over. We would probably get a foot massage at Treat Your Feet, because its the best thing in the world. Then eat somewhere great, and there are tons of places in the city, so we’d do that and Id probably take them somewhere on Buford Highway. A week is a really long time, who are you interviewing that actually has a week to hang out… If I had a whole week Id get myself on the road and head down to 30A or St Simons too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The three peaches consist of myself and my two daughters, Layla and Valentina. I am a single momma and they are the reason I started this endevor so I have to give a big shoutout to them. They make life so rich and fun and they play a big part in making this business run, from helping me run the shop and becoming great baristas, to helping make gelato, to listening to my worries and cheering me on, they fuel me to keep going. Ok my mom needs a shoutout too because, you know all moms do, but mine is there for me anytime, in so many ways! Also a huge part of our business is coffee! And I would’nt have been able to start this part of the business without Heddy and Steve at Java Vino! They have been instrumental in helping me with training, and equiptment and supplying me the best coffee beans for our superfood lattes and basic java from Heddy’s family farm in Nicaragua. Generosity that you dont run into every day is what Ive seen from them. I also had superior help from a fantastic barista from their shop, Diana, who helped me set up and create amazing drink flavor profiles that blow customers away on the daily. OK so that many people but they deserve shoutout and I could go on…
