We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andre, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
You prayed now grind came about with my wife telling me I need to get back to drawing because our son likes to draw. So the next morning she was in church service listening to the sermon then she came to me the following morning and said baby I had a dream of you doing something with this; it sums up the sermon from yesterday You prayed now grind so the first picture I drew she said no, then the second one she was like I love it so I texted my big brother Jerome Hamilton. Someone, I look up to as a mentor and business advisor someone I can call for spiritual advice and worldly advice. After several business leadership roles, he is quite knowledgeable in business and very successful; after looking over the picture he called me and we talked about what it meant to me, then we partnered together and brought it to life. He has truly shown me and helped me with being an entrepreneur “with patience and wisdom, comes success”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I want people to know that my clothing line is not just a brand but a lifestyle, especially for the younger generation. No matter what race, gender, age or religion you may be. No matter what you’re going through in life, you PRAY for what you want and you must believe, but at the same time you have to act upon it, GRIND for it, to stay determined and dedicated. There will always be lessons in any journey you take. The lessons I’ve learned are being more patient and learning how to learn the business side of being an entrepreneur. My big brother/mentor/ business advisor Jerome Hamilton has helped me with that and has taught me so much while pushing more and more. You can overcome any challenges that may come your way with prayer and patience. Everything takes time. When it’s your time, no one or anything can stop you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a week out with my best friend my brother DJ and Tim. I would go to blaze pizza and southwest Detroit for food, drinks and fun. Then somewhere laid back like duo’s for ballroom and ballroom hustle then kwicky bar golden Greek bar for karaoke. Than call my big sister Sally and brother Ty and head to their house for game night drinking and laughter.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1st, I would like to give all the honor and praise to my lord and savior Jesus Christ, without him nothing would have been possible. I would like to thank my parents, Shirley & Nate Thomas, for welcoming me into their home and raising me as one of their own even though I was a foster child. I want to thank them for that because if it wasn’t for them I, don’t know where I would be. My wife Falesia for pushing me to never give up on my gift and for giving me something I could bring to life. Last but not least, all my family and friends who have supported me throughout my journey and who are still here, especially my brother Jerome and DJ….
