We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Goodson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I feel like what has made sauce thrift so successful is that I am truly just me. I don’t conform to what people think I should be doing. I design what I want, when I want. I believe in being your true kind authentic self and loving what you do is what truly makes you successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a little different, I make wearable art. I started off on IG selling my pieces and it’s grown into me doing pop up markets almost every weekend all over the southeast. It wasn’t easy because you hear a lot of “No’s” in this business. But if you stay persistent and show people you really want it. It has a way of working out. The major lessons I’ve learned is one, create your own lane. Meaning do your thing not what everyone else is doing. Two be kind, kindness gets you so much further than anything. Three don’t be afraid to reach out to the big dogs first, worst thing they say is No? Who cares! Keep going! What I want the world to know most about sauce thrift is that no matter who you are or what size, everyone deserves to have cool unique clothing at an affordable price. I struggled a lot in my life and if I can make something a little easier for someone I’m absolutely going to. I want sauce thrift to be known for being bold, unapologetic, and all for the human race. I just want people to feel their best when they wear my clothes, and that they can take on whatever challenges lay ahead because they feel good and confident.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, we’d go vintage shopping at Poor taste on Main Street. Then we’d hit American wings off Third Street for a Philly cheesesteak. Then we’d head on over to my fav. Dive bar in the all of Chattanooga which is “Exile Off Main” Austin and Beth are the best bartenders hands down. But it wouldn’t be an actual trip without and trip to the goodwill!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Two people I want to shoutout. First off is my dad David. He passed away in 2018 but he was my biggest supporter and cheerleader. He always encouraged me to think outside the box and to home in on a craft. I miss him everyday and I would be making him the coolest clothes if he were still here. Second is my best friend Riley (style_verde) she is a fellow business owner here in Chattanooga and she has inspired me in so many ways. She pushes me to be a better seamstress and business woman. She’s taught me so much and I am so grateful for her wisdom and friendship.
