Meet Zoriae Dixon | Braider

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoriae Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zoriae, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I look at taking a risk like a challenge and I love challenging myself. Taking risk has impacted my business tremendously. I took my first risk when I quit my job but I knew that I could do hair. So that’s exactly what I did. I did not have a huge clientele base at the time but I was motivated and determined to take it to the next level. Taking that one risk opened many opportunities for my business. I knew the pros and cons when I took that risk but I did not want to look back and regret not doing what I had a passion for.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would tell anyone I did not get this far overnight. I was initially only practicing on my own head until my family started volunteering to let me practice on their head. With time, practice and a lot of patience .. I built up the confidence to branch out and offer my services to people outside of my family. I’ve made a lot of mistakes but I had to learn to keep pushing because nothing is perfect. There have been numerous days that I felt like it would not work out, nobody would support me,I’m not doing good enough, etc. I overcame those fears by learning to accept it for what it was. If I made a mistake, I corrected myself. I started focusing on those who did support me. I came to realize that it does not matter who support or who don’t support me. I just need to provide my clients with the best top tier experience, ensure that they are happy and to always put 110% in , that’s what really matter. As my business grew, I had to readjust myself professionally. I could no longer conduct myself in a manner that was not ‘professional’. I knew I had to start with myself in order for my business to expand. At the end of the day I am a representation of my business. So I started researching more. I was on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, google, etc. I was researching day and night looking for ways to help my business grow but also knowledge on what I could do to help myself grow as well. From that point forward, I set boundaries, goals and policies to aid in keeping myself and my business up to par. I say all that to say, starting a brand/business is a journey and it is far from easy. You just don’t wake up and it’s perfect and that’s the part nobody talk about. You will have ups and downs but no matter what you have to keep that tunnel vision and remember why you do what you do. This is only the beginning…

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start off with brunch at Bodega Ultima on Highland Ave. I love a good brunch & a mimosa. I would definitely take an afternoon bike ride and have a picnic at Savannah Rapids because it’s so peaceful and the scenery is beautiful. I love a place with good drinks and food so I would recommend T-bonz or Koi Japanese Hibachi & Sushi.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to several different people. God to be the first for listening to my prayers. Secondly, My mom, just growing up witnessing her get up every morning going to work with no complaints motivated me to keep going no matter what the circumstances are. Shout out to my granny, little sisters and family for being so supportive even through the “rough phase”. I can’t forget about my boyfriend. He has been so supportive and willing to help throughout the process. Whether it’s investing or just being a shoulder to lean onn, he’s always there. To my clients, shoutout to y’all for all the encouraging words and support you guys have shown me. I wouldn’t have made it this far without you all. Last but not least, Thank you Sky Kniphfer for offering me a salon home at Sky Salon and Spa. Thank you for all the countless recommendations, talks and opportunities.
