We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Lightsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I created the concept for Tybee Wellness Retreats and Nomad I was in a time of deep reflection and personal growth. My entire career has been focused on hospitality. My passion is wellness. During the lockdown for COVID I knew that something had to change. As a newly single Mom, I wanted to create a safe oasis for women to process what is going on in their lives and & give them the tools for daily improvements both mentally and physically. Women carry an incredible energy when we come together in a safe space. We can be completely free during a time when there are so many challenges.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in the hospitality industry for over 25 years. I have experience in the corporate hotel setting as well as with smaller businesses. My brand was built on my own experience and my passions. I have the skill to create and facilitate a unique and all-encompassing experience for our guests and clients that you cannot find anywhere else in this area. Our offerings are unique and diverse. I am proud that the immersive retreats we offer have gained such popularity that we have a waiting list and are doubling the number of retreats we offer in 2023. I recently launched Nomad, which offers the private services available at the retreats to guests visiting Tybee and Savannah. My practitioners can now come to you. In addition, we can create personal retreats & custom retreat experiences for groups.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A perfect day on Tybee would be getting up early to catch the sunrise on North Beach followed by a healthy breakfast & cold pressed juice at Mi Vida. I would take them to climb the Lighthouse for another great view followed by lunch at Salt Island Fish & Beer. Then, some beach time! I like to hang by the North Beach jetty. You can rent a surf board and try your skills or look for sharks teeth. I must encourage an afternoon nap. Then, I would practice yoga with Tybee Yoga and Healing Arts and grab pizza at Huc-A-Poos.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughter is my inspiration always. I want to show her that we can create a life that we love. I am excited about my “job” every day and she sees that “work” can be fulfilling. I have a mentor who keeps it real with me. She encourages my bravery and inspires me to lead with kindness and respect. The TWR and Nomad team is made up of a group of exceptionally talented providers. They come from diverse backgrounds and experience. My “tribe” is rich. Part of my “why” is to grow our tribe so that no woman will feel alone.
