Meet Melody Kelly | Cosmetologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melody, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Life is a risk all in itself, the personal risk I took was seeing myself as a business owner who could expand my gift to the world and not hold myself hostage to helping another person make more money off of me than me doing exactly that myself.
The role risk taking has played in my life and career has showed me that being comfortable is not a substantial place to be unless I plan on not going anywhere in life.
As a cosmetologist, I’ve become a leader, a role model, a creator and a Boss. I was fired from my job off the audacity of a hater which made me see my potential and that I only need God, faith and my own determination to make strides to my own happiness and not depend on no one else for it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I believe sets me apart from others is that I didn’t see myself as a business owner, and I was more so pushed into my purpose rather than seeking it out on my own and believing what I was doing was worth my time and energy and I could and would execute doing what I love anyways without failing.
I’m most proud of the fact, I left a job to pursue my passion and I’ve been a year strong into what I love to do and I’m great at it and live to make people feel good and happy solely off my talent alone.
How I got to where I’m at today is praying and having faith that I am the power I put behind my grind, if I don’t get up it don’t happen. Was it easy, no. But do I make it happen, Yes!
The challenge was getting out of my own way and out my own head. Once I did that it was a piece of cake.
Lessons I’ve learned is to listen to the clients, realizing their is a lesson to be learned everyday, and committing to take care of my clients in a delicate way so every single one of them feel as special as they make me feel when they come see me.
It’s cliche’ however, I’m a black woman in the society where nobody really wants to see us win! I am a winner, a fighter. I’m an Atlanta based stylist born and raised from California, I bring my own styling skills wit and creativity to every person I meet. I specialize in growing healthy hair and an educator. My brand and business is M.A.KBeautyandMore. Which I plan to make sure everybody will see it across
The globe sooner than later. I’m a proud mother of two smart and handsome son’s determined to make a legacy for them. My goal is to share my testimony and story with other women who may fear stepping out because they don’t have the resources. Family, friends etc, to venture out and make life happen. Please see beyond yourself because your purpose is bigger than you and somebody is waiting for you to take that leap of faith! Help someone by healing yourself! I did and it was the best gift I have ever given myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to skate and eat. Skydiving done it. Don’t really have much beyond that. Am I boring now? Lol
If I was in Cali I could give you a run down for days not much I can get into about GA still learning lol

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mother, confidant and friend. She is a cosmetologist who has been in the game for 40 plus years. She is my mentor and helped me realize my gift.
Also my loving sis Tamar Tisdale who made me realize my worth and that I wasn’t waking my my purpose!
These two women embody power, strength, courage and most importantly love! I wouldn’t be where I am without them!
