We had the good fortune of connecting with Shameka & Tamara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shameka, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Our thought process behind starting our own feminine care business was personable . As women, we tend to fight our own battles silently, with the fear of being judged. When in reality, our silent battles, could help others just by opening up. Personal hygiene being one; We wanted to be able to offer a variety of personal hygiene care products that are gentle to use, natural, effective, and affordable . Our target audience is all women of color, intended to take care of their own natural intimacy needs with assistance from Yoni Company.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Yoni Company is a feminine hygiene care business, launched by two best friends out of Hephzibah,GA in February 2021. Yoni (Y.our O.wn N.atural I.ntimacy) caters to all women who are in need of natural, affordable hygiene products that are handmade with love & care with their most sensitive intimate areas in mind. As we move along in our journey to becoming a major successful business, we’ve had to overcome hurdles as most businesses do (funding, inventory, target audience, exposure and etc). We’ve learned to stay positive, lean on each other and our reliable resources to keep us focused and driven. What sets us apart from other businesses, is that we truly keep our customers as a top priority. Word of mouth is one major factor when running a business. So for us, we want to ensure our customers (current and potential) are satisfied with not only our service, but also our products.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take her to the downtown area of Augusta,Ga. There are many historically significant places to visit such as the Morris Museum of Arts and the Augusta Museum of History. The Augusta Marketplace is also located in the downtown area for us to eat, shop and socialize during the daytime. Downtown Augusta also has a strip of bars, restaurants and some clubs/lounges for us to enjoy for nightlife. For more adventures, Augusta has a Top Golf, Dave and Busters, Escape Room, and a Paintball Exhibit for us to mingle and have fun. We would spend another day Kayaking and doing a Boat Tour on the Riverwalk which is also a historical area in the downtown area of Augusta, GA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
With our company being ran by two independent black women, we lean on each other for support and encouragement as we serve our customers . We also appreciate our family and close friends for their love and support.
