We had the good fortune of connecting with S. Mobley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi S., can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My hopeful impact is to bring children of color to the forefront in children’s books.

Not only that, but I also want to help children and parents bring their dream of becoming a writer/author to reality. My imagination can turn someone’s 2-line beginning sentence into an entire story! I want to share my gift of imagination and my love for helping others with everyone. In writing, there is no ceiling.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always wished I could draw and paint. When people think of art, that’s usually the first thought that comes to mind.

I consider my books art. That’s my way of creating. Coming up with stories of children sharing knowledge and information, or triumphing, or overcoming, is my way of reaching kids beyond my physical touch. I hope to inspire and spread knowledge and love, especially to all our babies. I do it for them!

What sets 2wo Scoops apart is the sheer fun and imagination I bring to my work and clients’ work, but there is always a lesson. My first book “Really Great Friends” teaches kids how to deal with kids of different races, and touches on protesting and police brutality. My “Lil Girlfriends…” series (books & coloring books) celebrates kids of color with natural hair, and teaches about black history). My 2wo Scoops Family series “Just Like Your Mom”, “Just Like Your Dad”, etc teaches about family dynamics and being role models, and includes all races and cultures.

Creating a book from scratch is not as easy as people think. The idea is the easy part. Turning it into a physical thing, whew baby! Between editing, illustrating, printing, it all is very time consuming and can be costly. I’ve lost clients when I drop that price (and mine is pretty cheap compared to other professionals). But that’s because people think it’s an easy process, and I understand that.

I’ve overcame fear and learned that you just have to go for it! You will always wonder the outcome if you never even give it a shot. And sometimes, you gotta remix it. I wanted to be an artist. I can’t paint, but I can damn sure write! And I’m happy with that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a fun, history-loving, foodie, lol! I love to eat, learn, and have a good time. So we would definitely hit up a museum or show of some kind. I remember going to see The Lion King at Fox Theatre a few years back. I also went to the Body Exhibit & a Titanic exhibit all in the same day. Something along those lines. There’s way too many restaurants to try, we’ll close our eyes spin & pick a different one every day. Drinks always get the fun flowing a little more, so the party would be wherever we are, lol!

The most fun and exciting people are those who enjoy life. Everyday isn’t always a good day, but if you can push through, that sunshine is coming baby!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my children and my parents (& other family members).

My sons motivate me to want to be great in this world, for them. Being a single Mom, the best examples aren’t always given. But I will go to the ends of Earth to try and provide that and show them the limitless possibilities they have ahead of them.

My parents & family with the endless support and push to keep going. Them showing me how proud they are of me, drives me to keep doing more. Everyone dreams of making their parents proud, I just hope I continue to do so.
