We had the good fortune of connecting with Chet Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chet, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a graduate from Morehouse College, I was taught at an early age that if the opportunity doesn’t present itself then you create it. I ran beauty schools from the age of 22 through 26 years old so when the opportunity came I hesitantly jumped at the chance.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mr. Chet A. Bennett is the founder, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Bennett Career Institute. Mr. Bennett is a graduate of Morehouse College with a BA in Religion and a master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Howard University. He is well known and has over 29 years of work experience in the cosmetology and barbering industry. In 2018, Mr. Bennett was diagnosed with kidney failure. He was on dialysis for a year while trying to pull the strength and will to continue his school and tend to it’s staff and students. Finding it hard to get up the strength, Mr. Bennett prayed for answers and wondered what was next. Soon a former student and mentee of his volunteered to be his kidney donor. After receiving a successful kidney transplant, Mr. Bennett has dedicated his life to helping others with kidney disease. Thus, the C. Alan Foundation was established. Chet also owns the Bennett Babies Child Development Center I & II, C Alan Systems, LLC, and The Bennett Corporation. Being a serial entrepreneur has its ups and downs, because I am constantly working I had to learn how to take time for myself. Vacationing is important as well as self nurturing and rebooting your mind.
A big lesson is to stay focused and never give up

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Washington DC; I would take a friend to the Museums on the National Mall
We would get crabs from the DC Wharf
I would treat them to a spa day at my new Salon the C Alan Men’s Grooming Salon and Spa
Several restaurants including Joe’s Crab Shack, Annie’s Steakhouse, and Far Tacos
I would take them to my church for over 40 years the Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church and of course a tour of the White House, the Capital and the Monument

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to Shout Out my Mom Joyce Annette Bennett, she is my number one fan and has always encouraged me as a child to reach higher heights. I can remember my Mom working with me as a kid because I had a stuttering problem and now I have several talk shows and had a radio show for over a decade.
