We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevon Thom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tray, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process starting my company Love & Fashion Entertainment stemmed from many various directions, non more prevalent than the other. 1 was I have sickle cell and I have lost to many Jobs from getting sick and missing work. I realized that I have to be responsible with my income and create a revenue stream for myself.
2nd I love being a part of events and when you can turn your hobby into an income stream, it’s like getting paid to have fun.
3rd I wanted freedom. I wanted to be able to travel the world and be a stay at home dad so finding a way for me to work from home was a pivotal part of my journey

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
If the journey was easy I don’t think that it would be worth it. Greatness is created through adversity and I had so much thrown at me. Individuals slandering my business, people sheding their doubts on me, several non fruitful events, not knowing where I would find funding from to keep the business going and growing. Each and every obstacle would be a failed situation if I had not learned from it. One of my biggest obstacles was finding funding. Being a young black man growing up in a surrounding that did not teach financial literacy, I never knew how money works and becoming a business man with no funding is ridiculously hard. I searched for years to find a sponsor or investor with no luck. I started looking into how money works so I can make more. I heard that if we did not learn how to make money work for us that we would be forever working for money. In that search I learned about utilizing OPM (other people’s money) like credit card that could give me all the funding I needed once I built relationships with the correct institutions. Now my credit score is high and I have access to the capital I need to fund my business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow, me personally as much as I plan events for people I am a very sporadic person and I like and appreciate the simple things. A great time for me would include food, food and more food but also interactive activities that gets people up and moving with strangers. And what better city to be in than NY that has people from all over thr world coming to visit. You can find pool halls, ping pong bars, rock climbing, jump houses, amusement parks, nature walks and so many more. Me personally I don’t really plan excursions for myself. If I want to go out one Night I’ll hop on my phone and look up events taking place in NYC and select a random opportunity to try something new.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1st I want to Thank God for never letting me give up on myself.

2nd I want to thank both my son and daughter. These 2 are my motivate me daily to never give up.

3rd I want to thank everyone who doubted me. Their doubt was the fuel to my fire. As a competitive person I love the odds not being in my favor.

If I could chose 1 book it would be rich dad, poor dad by Robery Kiyosaki. From young I always felt like my thoughts varied from others, just how I saw things. Rich Dad poor dad helped me to believe in my eclectic way of thinking and showed me that I just had a mentality of success.
