We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Montana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I I constantly remind myself to live in the present moment. That is where the magic is.. and where the memories are created.. enjoying the process.. I’ve had many ups and downs and years in between where I am questioning my passions, my progress, and what I am doing. I’ve found and learned that you will know what is for you and what makes you come alive..
And when you go in the direction of your dreams and follow your own intuition.. fully knowing that it’s yours… you have to make the decision to do everything in your spirit to make your dreams come to life
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My life is a constant, beautiful piece of art as a whole. As I grow up, I discover the things I like and who I want to be. Much of my life I have endured deep pain, and that has transpired into fear to become the things I desire, like being an artist. I’ve done almost everything in my life alone, from financially supporting myself from a young age to moving all the way across the states to pursue my dreams. So it’s taken me YEARS .. until I turned 25, to really start making music and practicing DJ’ing because I was so caught up in trying to figure out how life works. Yet, the timing is ALWAYS right, you know?
I started in the music industry when I was 13 as a concert production assistant in Bozeman, MT. Then carried my passions to Full Sail University studying Music Business. In 2019 I bought a bunch of cheap studio equipment and made my closet into my studio (which I still am using today). I created one of my first beats and dove right into trying to figure out my style as an artist. Now in 2022, I feel I’ve been magnetized to create this type of dreamy, tech house music with a type of ATL trap bass style. I loveee heavy bass like you’re at concert in the bathroom and you hear this deep bass come on and you’re like.. who the f*ck is that?? You gotta run out and feel it front row type vibe. I also love to utilize my voice and write. I continue to practice constantly on my music, yet, don’t get me wrong, I’ve put out a few songs where I’m like girl.. this is not a vibe, but it all helps me grow and learn. I love the process of this, I look forward to it all. There really is a lot more to it than just these key points, I think the most important thing about my journey is no matter how many years, and no matter how far I have strayed away from the music… I am ALWAYS pulled back to it. To create it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely LOVE to blend like water and try everything, be around different cultures, food, music, and just soak everything in, see how other people live. That being said, I would prolly start the trip with some good food spots like Honey Pig Korean BBQ out in Duluth, and The Optimist seafood. Then I gotta get mysterious at night and find a speak easy, or just something underground and secret.
Like I said, you gotta catch different vibes so, up next are some bars and clubs. Catch a show at Distrtict, go to EMBR Lounge, Big Sky Buckhead, and hit up any of Benny’s spots, he’s the head honcho in ATL.
Now on the nice sunny days, these spots are fun; North Georgia Safari Park, The Yard Milkshake Bar, Bike the Beltline, and hike The East Palisades Trail. Last but deff not least, We would be at Super Sound Studios or at my studio making music.
There’s always something new to do in ATL.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Every moment, person, place and thing has come into my life and made an impact in every way. From artist like A$AP Rocky, to the old lady sitting by herself at a coffee shop, if something sparks in my soul from others, I am forever connected to it. Yet, the most important thing in my life is my family, as well as friends that have become my family. The people who know everything about me, who have been there for me from the beginning of my life and through my life as I continue to evolve. These are the people who I will stay loyal to and love forever. My mom, my dad, my little sister, my cousin Emily, my best friend Shay, Jacko, Dudda, Pudz and Natasha.. and my grandparents watching over me.. guiding me from another realm. Without these people I would be a lost soul, I thank God for them, always.
