Meet Guitar Gabby | Founder, Lawyer & TxLips Band Front Woman

We had the good fortune of connecting with Guitar Gabby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I saw a large gap in the music industry and I wanted to fill that gap instead of waiting for the music industry to address it. There is a lack of representation for Black women in the industry on all fronts. I wanted to create a platform for Black women to participate in something they loved without feeling like they had to completely sacrifice other hats we have to wear in life. I also am very keen on the business side of the music industry and wanted to make sure I set myself up for longevity in my career and I knew up front that part of that was going to be ensuring I learned the business of music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have an interesting mixture of being a business and an artist. TxLips Band, LLC. is a dynamic collective of Black women whose mission is to challenge the boundaries set for women in the music industry as well as to inspire girls and women worldwide to be an unstoppable force in the music industry. This international touring collective has contributed to pushing the status quo of what the world says women can do. They continue to pursue their callings and are determined to motivate people everywhere by being themselves. What sets me apart from everyone else in the industry is that I have spent many years investing into myself, my education, and my business. I have built something from the ground up that is fueled by my heart and passion to see Black women win on our own dime, on our own time, and by our definition of success. I have created my own path in the music industry because I have never been one to subscribe to limitations set by an industry that was not set up for us. I respect things that are built from the ground up because I know how much work and dedication it takes to do that. It is no easy thing so this is for all the Black women out there that are on their hustle and grinding to the top.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is an interesting city and it really depends on what you’re into that determines the type of trip you have. I am really into nature and exploring so here’s what we would do. Sunday: we would definitely go hiking at Sweetwater Creek State Park which has so many trails that overlook the beautiful waterfalls. Monday- Friday’s are work days for me. Running a business is a full time time job and requires a lot of work behind the scenes in addition to the fun parts like being on stage or in the studio. Monday: We would head over to the indoor studio space I use to record concert footage. It’s called Crossover and it’s run by an amazing friend of mine Billy Johnson. We would spend most of the day there filming, rehearsing and recording before we head off to get dinner at Yard House which is one of my favorite restaurants that has a good vegan menu. Tuesday: We would head over to the studio to finish working on my upcoming project. The studio process is always involved but also very fun. Wednesday: We would spend the day shopping for new performance outfits! This is one of my favorite parts of being an artist because I get to find pieces that match the mood I am in for whatever the upcoming performance is. I have so many different styles from grunge, tomboy, girly, metal, sporty and that classic rock look. I love expressing myself through my clothing in addition to my music. Thursday: We would spend some time decorating my office which is another one of my favorite things to do. I love decorating with my mom and sisters because they have good interior design ideas. We are so close to the weekend but not quite there. I try to get things done between Monday’s and Friday’s so I can do my self care weekends. Friday: We would run business errands for half the day and then end the day with visiting some of the historical places Atlanta has to offer from the King Center to the Atlanta History Center, National Center for Civil and Human Rights and more. Learning about my history is a constant reminder to me to be grateful for what I have in life and that nothing good comes easy. It helps to inspire me and keep me growing into the next stage of life. Saturday: It’s time to party. I’d take Saturday to kick it, maybe visit some beautiful spots in nature and take a day trip to Callaway Gardens, get some yoni eggs, get some good grub and chill out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to always give the biggest shoutout to the 2 people that have a constant in my life and journey; my parents. I realize I am extremely blessed to have parents that support the things I do and the business ventures I have gone on throughout my life. They have always supported my education, my dreams, and my music. They have always pushed me to think outside of the box and they always reminded me to not let anything or anyone stop me or interrupt my grind. I am forever thankful to them for being my inspiration to pursue building something from the ground up (which is NOT the easiest thing to do in any field). I love them so much. 🙂
