We had the good fortune of connecting with Monte Eady and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monte, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t think I was going to be an entrepreneur, it just happened. It started my senior year at UW-Milwaukee after I had an internship as a Graphic Designer. That experience made me realize that the cubicle life wasn’t for me. I thought I was going to be this world renowned Graphic Designer. That still is a goal of mine by the way.

I started pursuing LikeMinds because a mentor and friend convinced me too. I knew I would have opportunities to get a job in graphic designer whenever I needed one, so I decided to focus on developing LikeMinds first. Thanks Greg.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Entrepreneurship isn’t a catch phrase. You can’t just throw it around. As a black person, we were and still told “to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps”. We have to have boots to do that. So just think about how difficult it is to be an entrepreneur. You have to design that boot and make it yourself. You have to go through the ups and downs. The constant no’s. The “I don’t think that will work” people. The “I think it’s a bad idea” people. You have to get through the noise by learning and continuing to grow at what you do. That’s what I did. One thing that I’ve learn through my entrepreneurship ventures is that the people that started with you aren’t always going to be the people that finish with you. Some people will not have he same passion and drive to do what you are doing. This is ok. Let them go.

For Me Design Studios, I want the world to know that we will take your company to the next level with beautiful branding that will put your company next to some of the biggest branded companies in the world. We don’t just work for you, we work with you. Our clients are an important part of creating something that will stick around for a long time.

For LikeMinds, our mission is to democratize access to opportunities for Black founders by connecting people and creating partnerships that enable founders to launch their businesses and participate in the entrepreneurial community. We want to be the online hub for black talent. Black startups and black businesses.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom and my wife. They have never stopped me from doing what I do. Even in the hard times. They kept me afloat. Thank you.

Greg Meier – He is the reason I am still working on LikeMinds.
