We had the good fortune of connecting with Britteny Weathers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britteny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting a business was never a part of my plan. I am a single mother of 3 children. So life for me has always been very challenging. I struggled for many years with raising my children and doing the best I could to provide them with a good life. After I was found out I was pregnant with my third child I knew working a 9-5 wasn’t something I wanted to do moving forward. I knew it wouldn’t be enough money to support me and my family. So I started researching ways to make more money. I’ve worked in the healthcare field for over 9 years now. I still wanted to remain a part of the healthcare field because helping people is my passion. I love that aspect of the career. I did a lot of research with starting my own business. Always second-guessing myself. Thoughts of failure, scared, doubtful, and anxious rush. I wasn’t sure if making a sacrifice like this would be the right risk to make at the time. The thought of wondering if I would be dedicated, consistent, and committed to being my own boss. As you know we are our own biggest critics. I always gave myself pep talks about what the future holds for me. I began reading a lot of books on how to become a successful business owner. The daily readings gave me a lot of motivation to just take the risk of starting my own business. I started meditating daily to help clear my path on starting the journey. I also would listen to a positive, motivational millionaire podcast as I drove to work daily. I prayed and asked God to order my steps and to give me a clear path if this was right for me. I took the risk with the little faith I had at the time and started my own business.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business A Breath Of Life LLC is more than just a business to me. It’s my purpose and passion behind it. My business is certified to train in all 50 states. Since the first year of my business launch, I’ve added so many more programs that co-exist with CPR training. I am a traveling CPR instructor. I travel in-state & out-of-state for training. My classes are fun, efficient, affordable, and very knowledgeable. What sets me apart from others is that my business is mobile. My clients love that they can at times learn CPR training in the comforts of their homes. They love that my prices are affordable. My clients love the interaction we have during class. The skills check-off list with role-playing real-life emergency situations. I am very proud of how far my business has prospered. I’m excited to add more programs to my business. If it wasn’t for my support of clients my business wouldn’t be where it is today. My biggest support has been word of mouth for me. It wasn’t easy at all at the beginning for business because I was still learning the basics of being a business owner. The pros & cons that come along with it. I had to learn what it meant to be rejected in this industry. I had to learn that no matter how many no’s it takes for me to be successful, all it takes is that one yes. I had to learn to be slow to speak and quick to listen. I had to learn that success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process. I overcame many challenges by being dedicated, consistent and persistent. I want the world to know that just because you work in a specific work setting that requires you to be CPR certified, doesn’t mean that those jobs that don’t require CPR training should get certified as well. Everyone should know and learn CPR. it is a basic life-saving skill that can help you or a loved one save a life. Also when starting a business do it for passion not only the money. For when it’s a passion it’s not just a business to you, you have a purpose. And with purpose, the money will flow abundantly. I’ve certified & trained over 2,000 individuals on how to save lives. I am my brand, A Breath Of Life LLC! #yourfavoritecprinstructor
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the city of Indianapolis, there is a multitude of things to do. If my friend were visiting from a different state for a week’s stay, we would go to a lot of fun, open sunny-side-up places. We would have to eat out every day. It’s a must. The food here in Indy is really fantastic. I would take them to visit the Galleria pastry shop. They serve some of the most amazing food. We would visit broad ripple for nights of fun. It’s a strip that has so many great bars and lounges to enjoy drinks and parties. There are a lot of black-owned restaurants that I would introduce them to. One of my favorites is Huge Impact. They cook the best soul food here in indy. Another restaurant is called the Grub House. They also serve great soul food. Public Housing is everyone’s all-time favorite restaurant. Finger licking is good. We would do lots of shopping. A girl’s favorite thing to do. Be Bella would be our first stop. This is a black-owned feminist business. She makes & sells the best feminine care products. Her products are life-changing. They smell good and feel good in your body. There’s a place here in Indy called the Living room lounge. Now, this is a place for the best chicken, drinks, and lots of laughter. We have a comedy club here in indy where you will laugh til you’re in tears. Great place and the energy is always amazing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Geesh! Where do I start? I first wanna thank God for giving me the courage to step out on faith and the continued strength to maintain my business. I wanna shoutout my buddy Sierra for mentioning me in rooms I haven’t even stepped in. Shout out to my brother for always being a listening ear. Whenever I would doubt myself I could call him and he will always uplift me and remind me that it’ll all be worth it in the end & to keep pushing forward. I wanna shout out to my ace boon Kamiya for always encouraging me to push through no matter the obstacles. she would remind me how much of an amazing mother, friend and boss I was. I wanna shout out to my parents for always believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I wanna thank my parents for raising an extraordinary, beautiful black excellence woman to be all she could be. I wanna thank my parents for always and still giving me unconditional love and support. I am forever grateful for my parents. I wanna shout out to my best friend Amber. She’s my person, my best friend, and my family. She picks me up when I’m down. She always makes my life better. I can call on her for anything and she’s there for me. I thank God for placing her in my life. Lastly, I wanna shoutout my children for giving me the motivation to never give up. I wanna thank my children for the unconditional love they show me daily. I wanna thank God for blessing me to be their mother. They give me so much love and strength that I never knew I had. I love each one of the ones mentioned here. They all play a huge role in my life. I appreciate the love and support they give on a daily basis. They are my go-to people whenever I need a lift me up.
