We had the good fortune of connecting with Charyl Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charyl, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a passion for beauty, so I enrolled into cosmetology school after graduating college. After being a cosmetologist for six years, I developed a chemical allergy that limits me from offering the services I’ve once offered. I discovered Paparazzi Accessories through a friend. I fell in love with the jewelry and realized that helping women unleash their beauty through designer jewelry is another avenue for me to express my passion for beautifying others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Adorn With Charyl (an online jewelry boutique). What sets me apart from other business owners is that I am not new to this but true to this. What that means is, I’ve been in the world of beauty since I was a little girl teaching myself to braid on my doll. By age 9, I was styling my own hair, and my younger sister’s hair. Although I, too, love reading and writing and studied journalism/public relations at Florida A&M University, beauty is my passion, so I enrolled into cosmetology school to learn more. During cosmetology school, I also worked retail and was the lead in the accessory department. As a creative, I naturally have a natural eye for beauty whether it’s regarding a haircut and color, eyebrow shaping and eyelash application, or fashionable adornments. This beauty thing is just in me no matter the avenue it’s expressed. Since childhood, I have loved helping others look good and feel good about themselves. It’s my calling,

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough one to answer because I am a homebody. I typically go out for celebrations. I have fragrance allergies, so breathing in someone’s fragrance results in my experiencing a number of symptoms, one of them being my having trouble breathing. I’m in a season in my life where it’s best for me to not be around too many people too often. So right now, my favorite spot in the city is in my home where I can breathe clean air.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my big sister and sponsor in Paparazzi Accessories Kimberly Bryant. Had she not said yes to the opportunity, I would not have the business that I have today. I’d also have to shout out my business mentor Nicole Walters. Without her 1K1Day business academy, I would not have the knowledge that I have today about business, and last but not least Mz. Skittlez, founder of Gurl Mobb, deserves a shout out. She is also a business mentor who I’ve recently connected with that I’m learning a lot from as well.
