We had the good fortune of connecting with Keosha Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keosha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The idea of my company BE Truth co. just plopped into my thoughts one day. The spark came from a moment of desperation in my life. My life journey and circumstances were not ideal and I had immense frustration inside of me because of it. My youngest daughter Divinity Shalom, is actually the inspiration behind the entire business. She suffered with severe allergies to nuts and dairy. Her allergic reactions would show themselves outwardly in the form of itchy hives and internally as well with her suffering from severe constipation. One evening after feeling defeated as a parent, I started to write. The lord began to speak to my spirit and the words flowed effortlessly from my mind to paper. What I was left with when I was done writing was a powerful prayer! It was a cry for humanity to be renewed from the inside out. Mind, spirit, body. The goal and mission of BE Truth co. in short is to hydrate the spirit and body of each one of our customers. In supporting my business customers get an opportunity to experience all natural, organic, vegan, and non nut containing skin care products. They also get to experience the power of God through positive affirmations and a unique prayer message placed in the packaging of their order.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I believe the components that separate the BE Truth co. brand from others is that we are purposeful in everything we do. The monumental factor is that the intention of the brand in totality is to hydrate the entire person, spirit and body. We provide natural and organic skin remedies in the forms of butters, balms, and salves; we also carry really cute stuff like lip glosses, lip stains, body shimmers and a number of other completely natural organic non GMO high quality products. My products are meant to treat and heal problematic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. We do this all while spreading universal love through a complete wholeness and inner healing from the word of God. Our community is humanity and our intent is to serve the community. I don’t have a huge inventory of products but I do have a few great products that work. When people open a BE Truth company box my objective is for them to have a true experience. My company is still fairly new and with everything new challenges can present. I am thankful that I am at a position in life where I can successfully apply the wisdom that I have gained through failure and accomplishment to build. As my company and the vision for it continues to grow and mature I am confident that the grand ideas that I envision for the brand as a whole will one day be tangible. Is it easy? No, but what’s the fun in that. You learn to appreciate the sunshine so much more when you’ve experienced the kind of rainstorms that I have had to weather.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question is sooooo funny to me. Mainly because as I mentioned before I am a mother of 5 children. I can’t remember the last time that I have been out for a night on the town with friends. I have no idea what my city has to offer outside of “kid stuff.” So I’ll switch this question up a bit to fit my life. If asked, where are some really nice places in Richmond that you can take the entire family. I would say, Three Lakes Park is always a great time for the children. It has numerous trails, ponds, an amazing playground, and a wonderful indoor animal exhibit area. Byrd Park and Maymount Park are always fun in the summertime. You can ride paddle boats, feed the ducks, have a picnic, and visit the petting zoo. I’ve never been, but my kids enjoy going out to eat with their grandparents from time to time. I am told that The Mellow Mushroom in Short Pump is a really cool restaurant. During my birthday weekend my husband and I did visit a place in Shockoe Bottom called the Tipsy Crab bar and restaurant. They had an amazing shrimp sub option and the crab fries were excellent. As far as drinks, it’s only strawberry lemonades for me and I think I’m partial to Chick-Fil-A. I do love getting my nails done at Regal Nail and Spa on Parham Rd. Tina is the best!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I first would like to dedicate my shout out to God. He has always kept me and positioned me in the presence of people who truly love me. I want to thank my father and mother Kenneth and Claudette Ross for teaching me to be a respectful, loving, and kind individual. As I have journeyed through life I realize that not everyone is gifted with parents as wonderful as mine. I want to thank my husband Calvin for loving me and inspiring me to think way outside of the stratosphere ( it’s nice out here.) I thank God for having a Mother In-law who motivates and encourages me to be the best version of myself. My tribe is so huge and I am forever grateful for my siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifetime friends who’ve seen the beauty in me even when I didn’t. I am eternally grateful for my Pastor Belinda Baugh and my church family of New Divine Worship Center who pray for me and my family consistently and earnestly. My ‘das’ who has been an additional love and a lesson in the phrase “ My life is not my own.” Last but not least, to each of my children who motivate me daily beyond human imagination. From the oldest to the youngest (Nehemiah, Amore-Ray, Lanil, Love, Divinity) their presence, smiles, laughter, milestones make my journey so much more full. I have learned some of my greatest lessons with them. Thank you all!
