We had the good fortune of connecting with Takisha Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Takisha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was to create something meaningful, profitable and fun that could get passed down for generations to come. I have three daughters and a granddaughter and I know how hard the stigma associated with looks, appearance, etc is for girls so I wanted to create a brand that supports them maintaining their childhood and character as long as they want no matter what they see and hear on social media. I’ve created a brand where they can be as creative in their look as they want and they’re able to express their own individuality without the opinions of others.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ice Cream Dreams & Accessories is an online retail site that caters to young girls. Our mission is to empower young girls and make them aware of their self worth. Our goal and purpose is to encourage all girls to remain confident in who they are and to be the best version of themselves that they can be.
What sets me apart from others is providing a great customer service experience. Not only do we want to provide great customer service, we want to provide the best quality products for young girls globally. This is why we put so much effort and creativity in providing the best website experience possible along with beautiful pictures, colors, and interactive menus. Also we are very big on customer interaction via pop up shops. That alone gives the customer an exclusive look at the quality services we provide in our customer experience.
We are most proud of the growth and direction that our brand is going in. We love the positive feedback that we get in our customer reviews and how our valued customers post their customer experiences about our products on social media.
Launching a business during the 2020 pandemic wasn’t easy. Smooth road, of course not! Some struggles I had were trying to find the right vendors that fit my brand, staying up late to communicate with my vendors, losing money because a lot of things in the beginning were trial & error, not getting inventory on time, implementing my social media presence, and coping with the fear of the unknown. Now I feel like I have a strong grip on these issues and I’m able to give other business owners advice on these issues to help them along the way.
I want the world to know that our brand is based on girl power, self worth, integrity, and executing your goals with strategic calculation. As far as my story…never give in and never give up. Stay loyal and dedicated to your dreams and build it one brick at a time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much to do in the city of Atlanta that I would rather stay in the city at one of my favorite hotels, The Westin. Our stay would have to be on the 65th floor or higher to get that city view as we look out the window. We would start our week off by going to some of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots, Toast on Lenox, South City Kitchen Buckhead & Milk & Honey just to name a few. You can’t visit Atlanta without visiting some of its most famous landmarks, Martin Luther King Jr Memorial site, Centennial Olympic Park. Atlanta Botanical Garden, Georgia Aquarium, & World of Coca-Cola etc. There’s so many great eating spots, what we choose to eat for that day would depend on our mood! LOL! Give me some lemon pepper wings and I’ll be satisfied! Although there are plenty of clubs/lounges to enjoy the nightlife, I’d rather take her to a nice rooftop at Ponce City Market. We can enjoy music, food, games and a great view of the city from the rooftop. The Battery Atlanta, Top Golf, Puttshack, Andretti Indoor Karting, Sip ‘n Paint, Escape Room, Wine Tasting, & Skyview Atlanta (20 story ferris wheel).
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my family for their love, support and encouragement & also any young girl/woman whom I’ve encountered over the years that I’ve said or did something in their presence to encourage them to not give up.
