We had the good fortune of connecting with Obafemii “Obie” Hawk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Obafemii “Obie”, what do you want people to remember about you?
My legacy will be my son Princeton Hawk, the son of a King. I will instill in him the love for people that I have. Reminding him of the love of God lives inside of him, and to always be a blessing, never a burden. Princeton is a true gem, and will impact this world far beyond I ever could. The blessing of my music and clothing will already flow into him as he is an active participant. Princeton and my niece London Hawk will be able to carry on the legacy of Obafemii Hawk aka Obie One B.A. as I am their favorite superstar in every way.
I want people to remember me as a young man that Loved God. Loved family. Loved the LostBoyz. Loved his friends. Love the city of Norfolk, Va. Loved his Son. Loved Music. Loved to laugh. Loved to travel. Loved to be creative in a way that would bless some ones life. I am a true believer that even though a person is not perfect they can still be used by God. I want people to remember the love of Christ that lives within me, by the actions of how I treated them. Remember to smile, it keeps you young.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting a business is never a smooth road. Neither is living life right. The road taken to be an independent artist is just as rough as starting a clothing line. When marketing/promoting with your own capital can be a bit challenging when you still have life to live with bills and children. It’s an everyday struggle to figure out ways to get yourself out there outside of word of mouth. I just continue to grind and pray until those floodgates open. I won’t stop until they do because I believe in myself and the gifts that God gave me. Through the years, I have also found out that true success is being blessed with another day to make something amazing happen. My advice to the world is always live your truth. Walk your own path, pursue your goals, never give up and pray. I am Obie One B.A. the Artist and Pray Brand clothing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If King Markiss B.A. came to the A Town for a week and we had the time and the money, I would take him to: The Battery. We would go to Punchbowl Social since they have a nice atmosphere. We would definitely check out Atlantic Station on a hot summer day. We dont drink, but we would check out the live show at MJQ Concourse. Since we would want to get on the microphone we would hit the 47Spot and rep for Christ. We probably would stop by Steve and Dale’s studio just to vibe out musically. Other than that we would be chilling in the crib strategizing our next move in life while reminiscing on the good ol days of how we want our unsung movie to go.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will dedicate this Shoutout to my Mother, MacLisa Hall-Hawk. If it wasn’t for my mom I would not be on this earth to make a difference. My mother is a great supporter of my music, my clothing line, and also my professional career. At times she feels as if I don’t show enough love, but there is nothing that can change the love that have for her. Hopefully before our time on earth is up, I will be blessed enough to continue to make her proud of me.
