We had the good fortune of connecting with Karon Joseph Riley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karon Joseph, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I think being my most truthful self. The good and the bad. If some bad presents, don’t just expect them to understand. Make them over stand that daddy is great most of the time but he is human and we all have our moments. The moments are not what get us, it’s the non communication of how those moments affect us that lead to problems. I’ll never lie to my children. Because they learn so much just from osmosis. I parenting based on my feeling of a myself as a child. What I felt I was missing or was off.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is me. Every gift that the most high has bestowed upon my spirit. What sets me apart from other I believe is my courage and my faith that I was made perfectly and the moment I was born I was imperfect, and I’m not afraid of the journey back. Meaning I’m only walking into every room as imperfect self without hesitation or pause. Always the thermostat, never the thermometer. Being true to myself and my vision is what I would attribute to where I am professionally. I saw a vision that was sent to me from God and I was faithful enough to follow it. Too scared not to. And along the way people ask if it’s easy, and I’ll say this. Anything that is going to last and is true never is easy, but it is. Let me clear that up by saying a dear friend of mine always says, if it’s meant for you it won’t be hard. So yes it’s been challenging, but not hard because I’ve been aligned with my purpose. Which brings me to my philosophy from my journey that I have learned. If you chase people you will always be hurt, but if you chase your purpose you will always be fulfilled. And if you chase money it will run, but when you chase your greatness, money will chase you. I guess what I would want people to know about my brand is it isn’t a brand. It’s an energy. I want people to see me and feel free to be there biggest brightest selves and believe they are just as special as anybody and if they have a dream (vision) to trust it and Keeppedaling into they run dead smack into it. Because that is exactly what I’m doing!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would do exactly what they want. It could be a week of dinners or a week of sitting around just talking and laughing. I tend to flow with the energy as it presents. I plan to always have a plan but know that it is just that a plan. And plans changed all the time. So for me the most important thing is we are together and making new memories together however the plan out. But if we do go anywhere it would definitely be black owned and fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is simple, it goes to the people I spend the most time with, whom you will find determines the height of your success or the depth of your struggles. So my wife, has been instrumental in me becoming the man I am today. When we found each other I was amazing for me, but not so much for anybody outside of that. She taught me how to serve outside of myself and that brought me to my true self. Then I would say my closest friends. I have a tribe of strong men who aren’t afraid to cry with me. David Banner, Lem Collins, Marcus Smoot, Marcus Monroe, Glenn Hytower, Bernard Robertson, Ayodele Oyinsan, and my Dad Fred Riley. Thankful for my warriors. And my children teach me more about life then I could ever teach them.
