We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Ashford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what role has risk played in your life or career?

I am no stranger to taking risks. I have always been a risk taker. That is one of the many attributes that I am known for. Taking risks in life is believing that God has your back and that your leap of faith will work.

Taking a risk, was that leap of faith that pushed me to have the confidence to explore a more fulfilling side to my expertise as an a visual curator.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

There are a few guiding lights that have motivated me to become the woman and business owner that I am today. I have always looked up to my mother, father, and various hardworking trailblazers that have mentored me without even knowing that they did.

I always laugh when I tell this story of how I gained so much experience within my visual career because Its funny now but at the time when it was occurring, it was far from funny. One of my very first actual visual merchandising positions was a visual merchandising position at Saks Fifth Avenue at the Houston Galleria. The position was more of a creative set design position managed by this incredibly creative visionary of a woman , who was considered the black sleep of her family because she was the only kid that did not become a doctor. Lol. She pushed the 5 of us to creative lengths in that I couldn’t imagine. She also did not take *no* for an answer nor did she “care” to hear excuses which I quickly realized after also lost a thumb one workday and had to return to work the next day. However her voice has always been the little voice in the back of my head that has lit fire to my steps.
