We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. King Imani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. King, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought behind starting my own business was I’ve always only wanted to be my own boss. I knew I had the skill and business savvy to be successful and I wanted to be the boss and employer that I never had unto others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What has set me apart from others throughout my career is my uncanny ability to take initiative and always going above and beyond. I am most proud of my resilience and completing my doctorate degree as it has always been a goal of mine.

I was able to get to where I am by always paying it forward and ensuring that I stayed grounded. It wasn’t easy but I always kept my goals in mind and stayed the course regardless of the outside distractions.

I learned that you have to stay true to who you are, you have to continue to evaluate and evolve and never allow anyone or anything to dim your light. The world should know that I am here to stay and this is only the beginning!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend were to visit I’d have to start off at Milk and honey. I’d take him around the city and we’d definitely have to go by Edgewood and take in the area and certainly visit all the MLK hot spots. That would take a few days to truly view and see all of it. I would definitely take him to experience Bar Vegan. The list could go on and on but those select few things are a must to me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to shoutout my mom (Loretta) and my sister (Valerie). They each gave me the push, instilled the drive and determination necessary that has equipped me with the endless amounts of savvy and abilities needed to be all that I am and will continue to evolve into.
