We had the good fortune of connecting with Carl Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carl, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Never been big on quotes or affirmations, but one that I always think of is from Citizenship in a Republic by Theodore Roosevelt:

“It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself in a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.”

Just a reminder that by virtue of trying and building a day at a time, I’ve put myself in a completely different class. Critiquing is easy and takes no real effort.

Putting all your effort into something, whether it works out or not, matters more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I cultivated a unique songwriting and composing style that I now impose on multiple genres of music. Classical, electronic, hip-hop, metal, whatever I feel like doing.

It took a ton of trial and error to figure out exactly what I wanted to do and how I wanted it to sound. The big thing it taught me is that nothing happens overnight. No matter how quick you think something or someone “blew up,” it took a ton of time and effort for them to get there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Probably the mountains up north. It’d have to be somewhere quiet. Not big on congestion. We could sit in a room by ourselves and just talk for six straight hours and be fine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the other musicians toiling in obscurity chasing that ghost.
