We had the good fortune of connecting with Berry Pendleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Berry, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The reason I chose an artistic and or creative career , is because Music was a major Part of my life growing up , My Mother would listen to people like “Whitney Houston, Patti Labell, Gladys Knight, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross etc. i would mimic the songs , I started singing in the choir when I was 8 years . I knew then I had a gift , I started writing music soon after. I feel honestly that music was imbedded in me it’s in my DNA…

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other artists? I think it’s my willingness to succeed, being loyal along the way and not backstabbing anyone to get to where I want to be, What I’m most proud of? One of the things I’m most proud of is still being able to do what I love “ that being singing after I’ve went through cancer twice and having surgery on my throat during the chemotherapy process.

It wasn’t easy at all I’ve been through and or dealt with a lot , even in going through the things that I’ve been through I’m still here today.

What I’ve learned along the way is that everyone is not going to be for you or like you .

What I’d like people to understand as it pertains to me is that I’ve been doing this for a very long time I give respect to everyone. As it pertains to my brand I have new products coming so be on the look out for them .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend were to visit for a week ,., I’d take him/ her

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout-out My Mother first the late “Janice V. Pendleton “ had it not been for you I wouldn’t be the outstanding man I am today. To my my siblings I love you all . My kids & their mothers… lastly My God Mother Regina Jackson & My mothers best friend Tan Stone you guys took on the task of raising me after my mom passed . You guys will forever have my heart. Brittany Debra Jackson , Tanyetta a Thomas, Shena Joyner . I love you guys.
