We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Kaufman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacob, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because a lot is pushing me that way from inside. With a lot of jobs, unless you’re inventing something totally new, the task at hand has a predisposed answer, and the job’s about finding that answer. At my previous jobs, I felt that way and that a lot of people could come in and do exactly what I did. Being an artist, I can more expressively use my voice and creativity and be exactly who only I can be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My acting is what sets me apart from others. In addition, I like to think my ability to work with others sets me apart. I like to show up on set with ideas in mind for the character, but I LOVE getting notes from directors. Being open to change and painting the picture production wants to see is always my goal.

I’m really excited for what’s coming down the road. I can’t say too much about specifics but it will be an exciting year. Follow me on instagram @_jake_kaufman for more:)

Some challenges I’ve overcome include making the official call to make acting my career. I was in my fourth year of college in engineering when I really considered acting and modeling full-time. I spent the rest of that year (during Covid-19) doing everything I could to start my career before I graduated. This included building up a video and photo portfolio. I told myself I would lean into acting and modeling for the rest of the year and I’d know by the end if it’s what I wanted to do. Sure enough, starting the endeavor was the most fun I’d had and knew I had to do it full-time. That year, starting off as basically a nobody, I had to reach out to people, build connections, and learn what I was doing. It was certainly a lot of work. However, ending the year with an agent and lead roles in independent projects was a great start.

To take this on, I had to be prepared to use my free time to reach out to different filmmakers and photographers over the internet. I had to put in a lot of work in turn for pay only in the form of some footage. However, this put me in the position after college to start doing paid work because I could say, “Hey, look at all this work I’ve done already. This is what you’ll be getting from me, and more.”

I also am pretty fit. That helps set me ahead for some roles.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone was visiting, this is what our time would look like: In the morning, we would start out somewhere quaint and local to where I’m living at the time. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed in Atlanta, it’s that there are restaurants and cafes ALL OVER the place. Therefore, we’d hit up a local cafe for some brunch, maybe a drink. Depending on who’s visiting we’d go to the Beltline and walk around, stopping at Krog Street and New Realm Brewing. Later, or on day 2, we’d go to the Battery for a drink and a game if the Braves are in town.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family certainly deserves a lot of credit. They have supported me on this journey and it means a lot to know I have their support.
