We had the good fortune of connecting with Dreax Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dreax, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking risks is vital and inevitable, especially when it comes to following your dreams and wanting to be successful. I took a risk and moved across the country from Arizona to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a career in film. I left everything I have ever known with no job and a semi solid plan to go chase my dreams in a completely different state and ended up accomplishing more than I could have ever imagined. Life is all about taking risks and putting yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to better yourself and grow.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I have always been passionate about film editing, photography, and videography. I loved the concept of taking an idea and creating a visual that you can share with others in order to tell a story and/or induce a feeling. I currently work for a film production company as an editor and the journey to get here was a miracle, but it wasn’t easy. It took me moving across the country, putting myself out there, and networking in order to get noticed and given the opportunity. It took a lot of prayer, meditation, hard work, and trust in myself in order to overcome my self doubt and any other obstacles that I faced along the way. The biggest lesson I have learned thus far is that you HAVE to have trust in yourself and show up for yourself. At the end of the day, you will always know what is best for you more than anyone else and it’s important that you act accordingly to that feeling that you have in the pit of your stomach urging you to go for your dreams. Outside forces and sometimes that little voice in your head called fear will try to hold you back, but you’ve got to understand that you are more magical than you think. I have accomplished a lot in what I think is a short amount of time, but I am not where I fully want to be yet and I am excited for what the future holds for me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I fell in love with Atlanta for the people, food, and culture. I find myself gravitating towards nature the most so I enjoy hiking Stone Mountain or walking around Piedmont Park or the Beltline. Whenever I have friends and family visit me I always take them to the ATL Breakfast Club and the Slutty Vegan. The energy in those particular restaurants is always so positive and fun and the food is always AMAZING. Those are my go to spots, but I am always going on adventures and finding new places to enjoy and share with the people in my life.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout would go to my friends and family for always supporting my endeavors and believing in me during the times when it was hard for me to believe in myself. And to the company I work for, Swirl Films, for giving me an amazing opportunity.
