We had the good fortune of connecting with Unique Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Unique, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a Plant-based Chef/nutritionist, I wanted to teach people that look like me the importance of eating healthy and knowing that eating healthy is a lifestyle and not a diet.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art started when I was a teenager, and I discovered the meaning of my name, “Unique.” At that moment, I knew I wanted to live my life differently from others. In high school, I would make my clothes which people would always ask where I got something I was wearing, and I would reply I made it, and they would want me to make clothes for them. That’s when I knew I was different. I went to school for Fashion Design at FIT before I moved to Atlanta and finished at AIU BUCKHEAD. I’ve worked in the fashion industry for over 15 yrs which was my passion.
The fashion industry isn’t easy because fashion changes by the season, and it’s so competitive, especially with fast fashion. I overcame it because there are so many lanes in the fashion industry, from the buyer to the stylist or designer.
I would want people to know as an artistic/creator, the possibilities are endless, and so about 5 yrs ago, I switched my creative lane to the food industry. During the pandemic, I started a business called “Eat Inn Cheat,” a Luxury healthy lifestyle brand. I like to say it’s the evolution of your grandmother’s soul food.
I also had a brick-and-mortar consignment shop called Style Finds Consignment, and since the pandemic is now solely online. And because I don’t let other people’s limitations stop me from doing the most in life, I also have been homeschooling my son for 6 yrs who I’ve traveled to over 50 countries collectively with that I love to blog not brag about lol.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, I love A good girls’ trip… Life after the pandemic has been a slight challenge, but we are still outside!!!
I love to shop, eat, and be pampered, so we would definitely be having a spa day at my favorite spot Bare Skintentions in Dunwoody, A day of shopping for sure at Phipps Plaza and the mall. I’m a selective eater, but I’m open to balance when I’m eating out with friends, so a few of my favorite spots were hitting up all of them from Breakfast at Barney’s, Toast on Lenox, The Real Milk and Honey, Bar Vegan, and Slutty Vegan for a “One Night Stand” it’s A burger🤫.
Oh, the best part of my best friend coming in town has a girl’s night in to catch up and me cooking because every time someone comes to my house, they expect me to cook.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m not a Religious person. I am more spiritual, so first and foremost, my higher power, my inner myself because it starts with me first, then my son Aaden because I’m one of his most prominent role models. Right now, I’m reading The Vortex ( Where the Law of Attraction Assembles…) By Abraham Hicks. This book helped me realize I attract what I am, and with that being said, I Have drawn My tribe Of strong, Confident women Who love Me and Overflow my cup. So, yeah, I want to dedicate this shoutout to you all.
