We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike G and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since a child I loved all genres of music & film. After completing high school I enrolled in college & received a degree in audio & video technology pursuing my passion. Working in local night clubs, promoting for independent artists & major label artists, & producing for many of them I recognized several talented artists & wanted to assist in getting their music heard around the world. Starting with putting Rhode Island artists & actors on the map.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well first off what might set MG Productions apart from other production companies & labels is my joint love for music & film ! I notice & appreciate different styles of hip hop & rap artists but truly enjoy putting out a challenge with my beats & receiving hundreds of entries from all over the world each with their own unique style & lyrics. I’m most proud of mixtapes, albums, & films I’ve collaborated on through the years with several of the artists I mentioned previously. It wasn’t always easy before streaming platforms to get noticed or recognized in the business. I remember going on a family vacation & filling a suitcase with cd’s & hitting the Las Vegas strip immediately after my plane landed, I also did the same in New York City after accompanying artists J Fancy to a Hot 16 Or Better Challenge hosted by Jack Thriller from Thisis50.com & G-Unit Records. One of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to keep the grind going as long as the passion lives on ! The hustle never stops ! I would like the world to know & always remember about MG Productions is, my company was inspired to help local artists be heard & recognized while doing what I love.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Really, that depends on what city & state I’m in at the time of their visit. If I’m back home I certainly would be taking them to the city of Providence, the shores of the beautiful oceans & some of the best restaurants in the world.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Soo many… Starting with the early years of promoting with the Party Animals, T.O.U.C.H Ent at several venues to working side by side with so many gifted, talent artists in both studios to live performances & hip hop hot 16 challenges. Some of those artists mentioned above include J Fancy, Brandon Allan, Chris Costa/Lift Entertainment, Challz Brown, Krook Rock, Trav Black, Flizz, Royal Z, Daphya, Tony Yayo from G-Unit, Redman, Kxng Crooked I, & many more ! All of these artists have added talent, creativity & inspiration. All deserving of my respect, appreciation & certainly warrant a shout out.
