We had the good fortune of connecting with C’Naye Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi C’Naye, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was actually healing. I was recovering from one of the most devastating 18 months of my life losing loved ones back to back. The icing on the cake was when I was 6 months pregnant with my second son my kids father was murdered. I had mentally hit rock bottom. I battled with depression for a year and coped with it by just trying to be numb and stay busy. I no longer had the desire to do anything. I honestly didn’t care to heal or to overcome this burden I was okay with just being sad because it was a familiar emotion for me. Once, I recognize there was a light in me I decided to grab hold to it and fight to find myself. In my healing journey I started to realize I was not the only person struggling with grief, depression, the hardships of being a single mother, etc. I knew that there were people out there losing their minds, themselves, and their sanity. Most importantly there were kids out there raising themselves because we all have these generational curses that are passed down to us subconsciously. I want to give not only my kids a better and brighter future but other kids as well. It was time to shine the light on the upcoming rising stars of the next generation.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My overall goal is to break generational curses that have been passed down generation to generation. The way we think, feel, and behave are influenced by those who raised us. I want everyone to become their infinite self and by doing that we have to find ourselves first. We must break those mental ghettos in our heads that hinder us from believing in ourselves. I am a mother raising two boys who father had been to prison and later was murdered because the streets had a hold on him. Statistically, the streets already have a spot for my kids but I refused to allow them to fall victim. That is why I strive to not only pour into them but pour into other families. We want to uplift, unite, and empower other families with any hardships they’re facing by providing resources to the inner cities.
Patience, Discipline, Control, Persistency, and Consistency got me where I am today professionally. I had to learn to trust the process while enduring the process. As a professional you have to always be teachable, This was not an easy task. I was a spoil girl raised by her great-grandmother that didn’t have patience. I was used to things being handed to me. I was used to things going my way. I had to realize that the only thing stopping me is ME. I had to stop getting in my own way and start showing up and becoming a better person and know that personal development is an ongoing thing. Life is full of lessons and teachable moments. I started to look at my failures as lessons and breaking those ghettos within my mental.
I want the world to know that we are resilient, powerful, blessed, strong beings. We can accomplish anything we put our minds to. We are in control. Our past doesn’t determine our future. Divine Empowerment will impact so many different families through uplifting, unity, and empowerment.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
De’Ondre White. He is amazing and phenomenal father, partner, and dope artist. He was the special person who came into my life giving me that push to shine my light. He poured into me, he allowed me to vent, and just get everything out. He taught me the most important gem in the world that Loving myself was important.
