Meet Barbara Burns | Custom Design Jeweler

We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Barbara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process of starting your own business is first of all you have to believe in yourself. If you don’t have faith behind your business more than likely nobody else will. Starting a business requires self motivation and determination.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Like most adolescents I struggled with self-identity but fortunately in my twenties I branched out and became more social and modeled for ten years and that’s when I started to fall in love with creativity and art etc. I definitely feel you have to find your niche in this world and everybody is GOOD at something so once I figured out my interest/talents in life I stuck with it. I’ve always loved fashion so I would gravitate towards jobs in the fashion world like shoe stores and different clothing departments but jewelry has always been a fashion priority if that makes sense. Jewelry can complete and make almost any outfit come together so when I make jewelry I stand out by making statement pieces that can take any outfit to another level.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m proud to say I’m old school Atlanta. Meaning I’ve seen the city offer and take away so much over the years but if I had friends to visit I would take them to listen to some good live music. Atlanta has flourished so much in the music scene so live jazz and R&B music would be easy to find.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give recognition to my late father John Burns. My fathers passing gave me more of a purpose in making jewelry and I feel I have a new profound passion for jewelry. Fortunately I was able to make my father a bracelet that he wore which made me feel so good. So When I have custom orders it not only represents my customer but every detail exemplifies the time I took to make it which will result in happiness for me and the customer.
