Meet Imani Lewis | National Bestselling Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Imani Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Imani, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a self-published author, I didn’t have the benefit of working with a traditional publishing house that’ll help me with all aspects of publishing a book. I just had me, myself and I. I did endless amounts of research, used my degree in Marketing, as well as, my creative spirit to accomplish this milestone on my own.
I’ve always been the type to want to help, encourage and uplift other people, so I thought what better way to do that then extend my resources and expertise to help
others elevate their businesses. Starting my own publishing company seemed like the obvious next step for me, and even though I’m still a new author, I’d love to help others like me to reach their dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always liked to consider myself a creative because I never kept myself inside a specific box. For example, I don’t just call myself an author because that’s just a small part of who I am. I’m a singer-songwriter, an artist, an entrepreneur, and a bestselling author. It wasn’t necessarily an easy journey for me to get to where I am today, but it wasn’t a particularly hard one either. I’ve always worked hard to perfect my crafts. I’ve been writing music and stories since I was a toddler, keeping hundreds of notebooks hidden away from my family of my ideas because I was sensitive towards them.
Along the way, I’ve learned that although it’s uncomfortable for me to share such intimate parts of myself with the world, it’s also selfish to keep this gift that God has graced me with to myself.
I want the world to know that whatever I release and put out there, I’m putting it out there with a huge chunk of my heart. I don’t just throw things together, everything is carefully worked on. Putting my all into things is what makes me, me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would take them to Waffle House for breakfast because who doesn’t love Waffle House? After, we would either go to Puttshack or Top Golf for a nice mid-morning activity. Then for lunch, we’d get ramen from Jinya.
For dinner, we’d go to Roc South because their food is some of the best soul food I’ve tasted at a restaurant!

This is just a small itinerary, I’d load the week up with more activities like six flags and things.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout of course goes to my family. I have a whole village behind me, supporting my every decision and I’m extremely grateful for them. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I want to give a special shout-out to my baby girl, Emery. She pushes me every single day to be better than I was the day before, and I can only hope I’m doing her justice.
