We had the good fortune of connecting with Deandria Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deandria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As my full-time job, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. At the beginning of my career I was required to wear business attire for court. At the time, I was not making a lot of money, but I was in need of business clothes. A close friend told me she thrifted and I decided to try it out. I was able to get a whole wardrobe for work paying little to nothing.

Over the years, thrifting became a huge hobby for me! I loved sharing with other women my great finds from thrifting. When complimented on my outfit, my favorite response is “thanks it’s thrifted.”

I would often meet women who would share that they would love to thrift but it took too much time. I decided to do the thrifting for them by starting my business SNOB•ISH Thrift Boutique & Services.

My goal is to help women who have a small budget have access to clothes that are quality and by well known brands for an affordable price. I’m a “bougie thrifter” so all of the items at SNOB•ISH are in great condition.

Shopping secondhand will not only help you save money, but it also helps to save our planet. Each time you buy thrifted items you are adding more time for our planet. I encourage everyone to research fast fashion and it’s impact on Earth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
SNOB•ISH started as an idea that I know God blessed me with and initially I was very confident about starting the business. As time went on, I began to overanalyze my idea and doubt started to creep in. “Does this really make sense?, “Will people like the items you purchase,” etc.

I decided that although I had doubts, I was just going to continue to put one foot in front of the other. Now SNOB•ISH is up and running with a website, items are being placed in new homes and the information about thrifting is being shared on my platform. I’m so glad I decided to keep going.

SNOB•ISH items stand out because they are quality, stylish, in great condition and super cute! I’m a bougie thrifter so I only Thrift the best. I have brands from Michael Kors, BCBG, Coach, J Crew and more.

I also offer styling services through our SNOB•ISH Surprise. You can either have me shop with you where I will assist in selecting items for you and provide tips for thrifting or I can do it all for you.

I love thrifting and so thankful to be able to share that love with others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I’m from Atlanta, born and raised, I still feel like a tourist because there is so much to do. I would start with brunch though because we have amazing brunch spots here. I would go to Milk and Honey for their crab cake Benedict. Then I would take them downtown to sight see and go to some of the local parks like Piedmont. Of course we would go thrifting so I would take them to some of my favorite thrift spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If it weren’t for my close friend Kenricka telling me about thrifting. I never would’ve been introduced to the world of secondhand shopping and all of its benefits. Forever grateful!
