We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
GlamBOMB was created during a time of immense personal change and rediscovery for me. I started GlamBOMB a few months after leaving an abusive marriage. I needed something that made me feel important, and that also reminded me to take care of myself. I had been in a physically, mentally and emotionally abusive marriage for years and I no longer knew myself or how to take care of myself on those same fronts. Initially, GlamBOMB was a jewelry line, but that wasn’t speaking to me. I began to dig deeper for what would really motivate me. Soon after, my mother reminded me of how much I liked making body lotions and oils for people and the chemistry involved in body care and natural health. She mentioned that she stopped shopping at bath and body works because the products I made her were so good. From then on GlamBOMB became a body products brand. I really started investing more time to develop the brand and products outside of body oils and butters in October 2018. Since then we have grown substantially and its really exciting!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
GlamBOMB is more than a business to me. It’s my therapy. Building GlamBOMB has helped me find my strength through learning to love myself again. I started GlamBOMB in 2012 but really didn’t start putting the necessary effort and attention into it until October 2018. I created an assortment plan, found some suppliers and got to work! I created my own logo and built my own site. I’ve been in the e-commerce field professionally for many years so most concepts of the ecommerce business weren’t foreign. The lessons I’ve been learning is to be true to yourself and what works for you. Take your time but not too much! Like I tell my son, “do everything with excellence”! There’s only one you, based on that alone whatever you have to offer will be uniquely yours. GlamBOMB as a brand represents strength and hope. I wanted to stay true to why I started GlamBOMB, so I donate 5% of sales to domestic violence shelters and programs. Eventually, I would like to be in a position to hire survivors and help them get back on their feet and financially stable.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All of my closest friends live in the same area! But hypothetically, we would definitely restaurant hop. My favorite thing to do is go to a great restaurant and enjoy the experience. Some of my favorites are 246 in Decatur, SOS tiki lounge in Decatur, West egg in Midtown, and the Garden Room in Buckhead. I also enjoy the Glenn Hotel Downtown and Southern Art & Bourbon Bar in Buckhead. We would probably check out some local art and do some local shopping. I don’t prefer shopping malls. When you shop local your experience is unique every time!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out God! My relationship with Christ has brought me through so much, and will continue to. My son is so amazing, little does he know, he has helped me get through some of the most challenging times in my life. Also, my amazing village! My family and friends who have supported me not only in the ups but when the downs were so low, it almost seemed impossible. I love my family and my friends – my friends are my family! I have a small circle, I appreciate everyone in my life and the value they sow into me everyday.
