We had the good fortune of connecting with Well Carvalho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Well, why did you pursue a creative career?
Everything started with music; I played drums in a band back in Brazil, where I’m from. After I moved to Atlanta, music started to fade away, and that’s when I needed to find a new outlet for my creativity and found photography. Being in a new city with lots to do, made my creativity burst. I’ve always loved photography but never considered myself a photographer. After I got my first set of cameras for Christmas, photography just took off. After that, I would go out every weekend to take photos, and from there, my creative career started.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to all the traditional spots in the city like the Coca Cola Museum, Aquarium, and MLK Museum. Also would take them around town to Piedmont Park, the beltline, and stop to have our favorite ice cream, Where’s the Scoop, which is hands down the best ice cream in town. Then we would have lunch at the Varsity, which is an iconic staple of Atlanta. I would also take them to eat one of the best burgers in town at the JCT Kitchen. I don’t drink, so I don’t know where to take them to have a drink, but I can eat some good food!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Most definitely, I have many people to thank for where I am today in my creative road. First, my wife’s cousin, Christianne, from the beginning she was my biggest cheerleader and always encouraged me to follow photography. Being a photographer herself, she always saw a lot of potential in me. Second, and most definitely my wife, she was the one who gave me my first camera when we were just friends. She saw that I missed music and needed to find a new outlet. From there, she has always been my biggest supporter.
