We asked folks about legacy and what they want people to remember about them. We’ve shared some of those responses below.

Nigel Darius | Artist + Educator

I want to be remembered as someone who was devoted to cause – specifically in this season, that cause is reconciliation… with self, with community, and with the worlds that I’m privileged to serve. I’ve come to understand that much of reconciliation is rooted in healing. Understanding where the issues lie, then approaching them with grace, focus, and purpose. I want my children, and my children’s children to know that I fought diligently to change the trajectory of their lives. Read more>>

Austyn Seitz | Portrait & Wedding Photographer

With starting my photography business, my goal was always to make a positive difference in people’s lives. What does that mean to leave a lasting impact from a mini session to just a wedding day? How does my business altar someone’s entire life in either a moment or a day? In my sessions with my clients, I hope to alter their life through the aspect of increased self-confidence. So many times, I see clients that from the get go know they will not like their pictures because they do not like themselves. This concept goes for both the males and females. My goal is to change that before the pictures even start, during the session itself, and afterwards through the client gallery! I want people to remember the way they felt about themselves in the session, as well the client experience throughout the whole process with me! How do I do this? Read more>>

I want my legacy to be an image of the hard work and dedication that I have dedicated to my family and businesses. The example that I set for my 4 beautiful children, to wake up, pray, go into the world with a smile and the light God has given you. Always do the right thing even when no one is looking. To complete task given to you with love, care and dedication. Be a finisher, its not how fast you finish but the care you handle it with. I want people to remember the love the put into the world! Courtney Lene’ Alexandre | Digital Creator

The legacy I will leave is to encourage humankind to always “return home”. Home is the sanctuary that is housed within our being and that develops over the course of our life. The place where a single invite issued is to the Self. We are born into a system that forces us to prove our worth immediately. We must learn efficiently, appease our guardians, make companions, and desire to be a part of society. No where in all of that work is there an allegiance to the self, understanding who we are or what we love. I desire to be remembered for how I continuously and consciously “returned home” and how my work encourages that true love exists within the acceptance of oneself. Read more>>

You know that song “I Was Here” by Beyoncé, yea it pretty much sums up everything for me. • “I lived, I loved. I was here.” • “I did. I’ve done, everything that I wanted & it was more than I thought it would be.” • I want my children to become & continue my legacy one day. They’ll be able to accomplish so much more than I, because they’ll get too see firsthand all that their mother accomplished. I want people to remember that I never gave up, I never gave in, & I never conformed to any of THEIR expectations. I want to be remembered as the girl that did whatever the fuck she wanted with no regards to others opinions or feelings of her. My notoriety will leave behind the mark of my legacy. Read more>>
