Taking Chances

We asked some of the most interesting folks in the community to open up about how they think about taking chances and the role risk has played in their lives and careers. Risk is by far the topic folks talk to us most about and we hope the responses below will help shed light on many different perspectives.

I believe taking risks is necessary for growth. Beginning my career as a tattoo artist was a risk in itself. You really aren’t able to provide for your family consistently until at least year 3 or 4. Starting a business in a new city, as a New York native with three kids under four, was the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. But I’ve learned that risk is unavoidable in entrepreneurship—it’s tied to every decision we make. For me, taking risks is deeply rooted in faith, trusting that God will match my efforts when I step out in belief. I ask myself daily, ‘How have I overcome fear today?’ and the answer always lies in focusing on my goals.
