We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaquin Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaquin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
We must eat to live. Being a chef, I love personally feeding my community. I love serving those who serve such as firemen, police, EMTs, and more. To show my appreciation for all that they do. When you feel appreciated, you work to be great at your job. Additionally, I love taking care of elderly clients and giving back to the community and feeding the homeless as often as possible.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets me apart from others is that I try to offer exemplary customer service. Everything is customized based on each individual client’s needs and preferences. One of my proudest moments was when I was recognized on CNN. My grandma always told me that if my hand is closed tightly, then blessings can’t flow in and blessings can’t flow out. Because of this seed she planted in me early in life, I try to give back to my community as much as I can. One year on my birthday, I decided to provide random acts of kindness including giving back to the homeless and providing complimentary meals to an elderly veteran. I took a pic with the veteran on my bday and posted on social media. A short while later, I received a message from CNN wanting to share my story. I agreed and I started receiving messages from people all over the WORLD thanking me for my kindness. I am where I am today because of hard work and determination. Giving up is never an option. I’ve faced countless challenges and each time I felt like it was a losing battle, I looked at my three children watching me. They are a big motivation for me. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that anything worth having is worth working for. I am proud that I was able to publish a few cookbooks and create a line of custom seasoning blends. Because of hard work, word of mouth advertising, and stellar customer service, I am where I am today business wise.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
McDonough, which is my hometown has an abundance of fun things to do and places to eat. I’d recommend Axe Country which is a fun adventure of throwing axes. I’d recommend Southern Belle Farm for picking strawberries, farm activities, and more. Southern Fusion Dining down in Locust Grove is phenomenal. Crust & Craft Pizza on the McDonough square has some of the most amazing and creative dishes! Southern Roots has live music and a great atmosphere!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my best friend, Latashia for always encouraging me and pushing me to be great every step of the way from Day ONE. She is my right hand, my sous chef, my babysitter, my analyst, my consultant, my psychologist, my sister from another mister, AND my number one cheerleader!
