We had the good fortune of connecting with Yessi Baptist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yessi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to have control over my life. There’s nothing like being your own boss and playing by your own rules, most importantly having something you built by yourself from the ground up is also an amazing process.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a lash artist is hard. Lashes are beautiful however it is a tedious job! There’s no shortcut to get where you would like to be as a lash artist it is truly a job where you have to practice everyday for hours a day to see progress in your craft. Lessons I’ve learned along the way as a business owner and lash artist is that we all have different styles of lashing and while some people may like your work others may not ! And that’s ok. What I want people to know about my brand is that diversity counts. I work hard to set myself apart from other brands and Where I’m from the industry is mostly flooded with Hispanics who gate keep the lash community and don’t really invite other lash artist of color to be a part of that group or “clique” I want people to see that no matter if you have a thousand people supporting you or one as a black lash artist you can still make it. Hard work and determination will get you far, do not be discouraged or disappointed from people you expected to support you if they fail to do so and do not beg for seats at anyone’s table. Build your own and be the real boss.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I moved to Atlanta from California is June to get a fresh start in life and also to expand my business. Atlanta really has some of the best food and nightlife activities. I would definitely start off by taking them to the wing bar because those are the best wings ever. Then I would definitely take them to some of the bars here i especially love hip n hops brewery they have an awesome selection of beers and the atmosphere is definitely beautiful.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to alyssalashed and momsterlashed for being two amazing women who never stop encouraging one another to be the best possible business owners as possible. Where I’m from in the inland empire there’s not a lot of love shown between lash artist as many look at it as a competition however us three women see more good than bad in supporting and uplifting other lash artist out there whether they are new to the game or old there’s so much artist can learn from one another if they stopped looking at each other as competition.
