Meet Whitney Coble & Tiffany Thompson | Licensed Mental Health Therapists & Entrepreneurs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Coble & Tiffany Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney & Tiffany, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We began originally as child focused therapists. We worked immensely with children ranging from the ages of 3 years up to 17 years old. As new therapists are biggest goal was feeling confident as a therapist and meeting the criteria to become a fully licensed therapist in our state. We learned some very valuable experiences as therapists working with children but we saw the need for adults especially the women who were involved in the children lives. We understood the stigmas, resistance, and generational trauma that kept several of the parents we worked with that from getting what they needed when it came to their mental health. Our biggest obstacle was building out practice from the ground up. We saw there was an immense need for black maternal mental health therapists and that became our niche. The unique thing about our business idea we wanted our mental health practice to be a brand not just your typical agency with no presence in the community.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a women’s mental health practice based out of Charlotte, NC. What sets us apart is we specialize in maternal mental health services for black women. That ranges from women are hesitant to start a family, those experiencing emotional challenges during pregnancy, and those experiencing a emotional challenges throughout their postpartum period. We understand the women who are stugglingbwith infant loss, infertility, terminated pregnancies, adoption, and trauma. We provide couples and co-parenting therapy based around pregnancy and postpartum. We stand out because we are the women we serve. We wanted a safe emotional Space for black women especially though pit the perinatal period (ie pregnancy / postpartum). We understand birth trauma , maternal mortality, and medical
Mistreatment from our lens as black
Women.
We got where we are business wise by really sticking with the journey of what we set out to provide. We have had times we didn’t know what was next or how to even make our business profitable.
It has not been easy at all this journey has been emotional taxing more than anything else. We never thought about the emotional impact being the business owner came with the self doubt, the fear, the frustration, and vulnerability it takes to be fully committed to your business.
The lesson we have learned along the way if boundaries especially when it comes to our time. As a new business we struggled with standing strong on our worth. I remember we struggles with even setting a fee for speaking engagements and our price for mental health services. We have grown so much in this aspect and also not doubting ourselves. We had to gain the confidence in our ability to believe our business could be a brand and sustainable.
What we want the world to about our brand is Raising Resilience represents growth. Our logo is a sunflower and we tie that into to several aspects of our brand. We have built our brand around providing and emotionally safe place for black women. Growth can be uncomfortable, unhinged, and sometimes even unwanted but we have a created an emotional safe place for the women we serve. Mental wellness is not just important during a crisis but based around deconstructing, healing, managing life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think we owe our biggest shoutout to each other. We have learned so much about ourselves as women, therapists, and business owners. We seen our my discouraging moments with each and also felt out highs together. We have had several influential people such as Natasha Todd and Shanika Johnson who are amazing therapists themselves, who took the time to hear our business ideas.
Janae Edmonds “Founder of Herpower Tv” she gave us our first chance to be interviewed on her YouTube platform. She believed in us and gave us an opportunity to share what our practice represented. Also Cynthia from Mind Body Baby she collaborated with us on in bringing our services to the forefront in the Charlotte, NC community. Also all amazing supporters online we have never met some of these women and they willing will
share our social media content and have been with us since the beginning.
