We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Chantel Adside and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria Chantel, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I personally am inspired by every single plus size advocate making a safe place for women of all sizes. As a plus size woman I use my public forum to talk about the importance of self love at any stage of your journey. I personally am advocating for a healthy lifestyle at every size. Society needs to allow women of all sizes to feel beautiful and able to be healthy, mentally and physically at every size. I have a son that just turned 13 and he is learning how to be a gentleman with his mentor and I started to think, how different my life would have been if I had a mentor at that age teaching me how to accept myself and love myself at every stage. I am inspired by every young woman and every woman of any size that may come across my journey and be able to take something I say or do and change their lives.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most excited to share my weight loss journey with you all. I will never claim that is it easy and I will never claim that I have not been frustrated along the way. I started my journey at 504 lbs and I am currently at 409 lbs. To completely be honest the hardest parts involved the transparency and self sufficiency of the entire journey. I have tried and failed many diets as many women have and the straw that broke the camels back was when my trainer quit on me, not for anything I did but for his own personal reasons. I felt like an absolute failure, I felt like giving up on getting healthy, but I just couldn’t give up on myself. I know many women like myself that get to a certain weight and never have health problems, I was never diabetic, I never suffered from high blood pressure or cholesterol but I am getting older and I never wanted it to get to a point where I started to get sick. It’s crazy to say but along the way my appearance sheltered me from the hate most women my size get online. I wanted to use the fact that my appearance was socially acceptable to show a unique and real look into a super sized person finding a healthy life. I post daily and I am honest, I was not here to give advice, I document and hope to pour the gasoline that will set a fire inside someone else to make a change
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My absolutely favorite spot right now is the Medlock Park, there is a beautiful trail that almost feels like you are walking on top of the tree tops. I would definitely take advantage of the time and take them to eat from Scoville Hot Chicken, they have amazing sandwiches and oh my goodness the fries dipped in the signature garlic aioli sauce are absolutely worth a trip into town…yum. If she had enough time I would definitely take a small road trip to see the Georgia Guidestones, it is located about two hours from the city but it is definitely worth the trip, I am into mystery and aliens and this site is intriguing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I honestly want to thank Josh Smartt (JayEss) for teaching me about the importance of putting myself first. Although we are in two different fields he found purpose behind what I was doing and he clapped for me enough to help me find my purpose. When I finally found my calling he taught me the importance of clarity and communication, he was absolutely right. He made me realize that there are people out there looking for someone that they can relate to in order to make a change.
