We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to build a brand for a long time. I felt like everything that I’ve seen as far as fashion and what was trending was appealing, but not affordable. Growing up I was always fortunate to get everything that dropped. So I decided I’d change that for the people who had a similar upbringing.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m excited for the Spring 2023 launch. I’m trying some new things other than just simple sportswear. I’m definitely stepping out my comfort zone. I’ve been trying to get my business started since 2020, but the pandemic slowed me down a bit. It gave me time to redirect certain things so be fully prepared to take bigger risks and just hit the ground running with my brand. The biggest lessons I’ve learned thus far is not to invest in anyone but yourself in the beginning. I’ve ran into shady dealings that set me back, but I ended up overcoming them by investing in myself! It was not easy at first to overcome the obstacle, I kept thinking that people were business minded like me, and I had to learn the difficult way. I overcame these challenges by realizing in ju business you are going to take some losses, as long as you learn from them you’ll be fine! I want people to know that it’s not about the price tag, it’s about quality and a great relatable product! Going forward I’m going to make it my mission to keep my brand trendy, fashionable and affordable!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely take us all to a getaway cabin somewhere in Tennessee. We most like drink wine and champagne and eat brunch 24/7. I think any place with a great mimosa is a place worth visiting!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely have to give a shoutout to my son Julian, my sister Chareema, my cousin Neish. My friends. Tempestt, Lexie, Jannel, Kenna, and more. Anyone who has purchased any of the product. They’ve definitely pushed me to get in front of my goals and challenge them. They’ve also been extremely supportive with sharing and promoting my brand.
