Meet TYRESE LITTLE | BARBER & ENTREPRENEUR

We had the good fortune of connecting with TYRESE LITTLE and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TYRESE, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Before starting my own business I started out in Corporate America shortly after graduating college. During my time I started off extremely successful, but I wasn’t sure if working a traditional job was for me. At the time I lived in Dayton, OH and I wanted start trying things that I was actually interested in. Being that I always had a passion and interest in Barbering I decided to sign up for barber school. I wasn’t originally planning to pursue barbering as full time career but as I attending school I fell in love with the craft even more. One day I realized that I’m going over and above for a company that I will never own, and instead I could be going over and above creating and building for my own company. Once these thoughts became concrete, I came up with goals and plan to move forward with my career in barbering.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My brand and business is all the name “Olympus Cuts”. I was big into Greek Mythology stories growing up, so I created a brand based off this idea. When I was asked how I wanted people to feel when they sat in my chair, I responded “like a God or Goddess”. Although this may seem like a bold statement, its also very true. Mt. Olympus is where the Gods and Goddess lived in the stories I read growing up so I choose this name. My goal within my business is to provide a private luxury experience for my clients, so that they feel their absolute best. It seems simple and though out but it wasn’t easy getting here, especially dealing with barbershop closure during the pandemic and also growing our family during this time. With this combination of challenges it also help me to become more creative with business in general. It forced me to grow my business in different ways such as merch, and product sells. Through this adversity I learned lessons about saving, growing and creating within what I already have.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When it comes to my story and success I have an amazing collective of Family, Friends and Mentors that back me 1000%. I cant name everyone individually, but my Wife has been nothing short of amazing during this entire process. She gives me real and honest feedback on the regular and the support is unmatched. My parents (Delicia Little & Charlemagne McCarter) never put a ceiling over my dreams during my childhood and definitely not now. If I say I’m going to do something, they make sure to go above and beyond with support and accountability. My 6 siblings and small group of close friends are also my biggest supporters as well. I also have barber mentors such as my first shop owner Phish of the Grooming Lounge Charlotte, NC, Mike of Cuttn Up in Greenville, SC and CJ of The Barberville in Charlotte, NC. What I love the most is that I’m not around a bunch of “yes men” that give me valid and honest feedback and ideas. That is what helps with continued success within my business.
