We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up is never an option. Not trying is the only certain way to not succeed

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been making music since I was 7. Initially as a way to vent because I didn’t have my father. I wrote my first raps dissing my father out of anger and I got good at it. It was about 12 years later when I actually got the chance to record in a professional studio (LEGION OF MUZIK studios) and got the chance to sharpen my skills as an artist. At the time I was broke so I couldn’t pay for many beats and producers online were either impossible to get in touch with or asked for too much money for beats or too many rights for the beat even when you did pay for them..so in an effort to cut out the middle man I got a job and saved enough to buy a laptop, speakers, and a beat Maschine. I taught myself how to produce and engineer my own beats but it wasn’t paying the bills. So I got into truck driving. I was skeptical at first because I thought it would take me away from music, but it actually helped me flourish. I took my earnings from trucking and invested in more studio equipment and eventually a building to house a new studio that indie artist such as myself could use to hone their craft and also learn more about the business of music and why it takes more than talent to be successful. Long story short, I wanted to be what nobody was for me and help shine a light on artist who otherwise would never be heard or seen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from Enfield, NC a small town where there honestly isn’t any tourist attractions to take anyone to. Enfield isn’t a place anyone comes to visit, it’s a place where either you grew up and got stuck there or you did your best to make it out and never go back unless you’re visiting family. I don’t eat it but a lot of people say we have the best Chinese restaurant anywhere.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
