We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was very unintentional I would say. I didn’t start shooting with the goal of making money or profiting off my work, but once I got to a point where I thought I was good enough to start taking commissions I did because the demand was there.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m really excited about the growth that has undergone since I’ve begun photography. From where I first started to where I’m at right now and where I’m going with my art makes me very happy because it’s been a difficult start of the year for me creatively and those blocks are finally starting to clear up. I’ve learned on this creative journey ,that you have to be patient, move at your own pace, and don’t compare yourself to others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite places in the city to just go and walk around would be Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market. If you’re looking for a place to just hang out, grab some food, and just enjoy the surroundings those two spots are good starters.Along with that, I would say Piedmont Park is always a pleasant time and there’s usually an event or two happening when you’re there to accompany the nice views of the park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say first, my immediate family, raised and gave me the confidence to pursue a career in photography. At the beginning of my journey in college, I was very unsure of what I wanted to do and throughout those difficult times, they had my back. Along with them, I want to thank all of the models and other artists I’ve worked with because of the constant support and inspiration from them.
