We had the good fortune of connecting with Triston Montgomery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Triston, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Before deciding to quit my last job to start my video production business, risk was something I took very seriously.

I have always been very cautious about pretty much every decision I make. I think about it, think about it some more, write it down, turn it upside down, write it with different phrasing, ask my friends for advice, ask my dad for advice, pray about it, & wonder if bad things that happened were a sign to make a certain decision.

But, do you know what I could do with all of the time it takes me to analyze the risk of one decision?

I could make 10 more decisions that get me 10 steps closer to my goals.

This hesitant mentality has cost me years of personal development & success. But, after I made what I believed to be the riskiest move of my life, by quitting my job to be self-employed, I realized that the risk involved in that decision was only the manifestation of self doubt.

If I just believed I could achieve what I’m achieving right now, the risk of achieving it, wouldn’t have even existed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I provide video production services for the businesses that I think are cool & want to see succeed. But, that’s not all.

Video production, no matter the scale, budget, or quality, is just that, the production of a video.

The success of a video in the world we live in today is not promising.

But the success of a video that was produced with a business’ goals in mind, & distributed strategically onto the channels best fit for that business’ goals, is almost fool-proof.

This is why I identify as a video strategist. I make great content, & I can make that content grow a business online. Which is cool as hell, in my opinion.

My title as a video strategist is new. But the skills that led me to this title include 10 years of experience creating videos, & 5 years of research & experimentation in social media marketing.

Those 10 years Video included the challenge of learning almost every job included in the rolling credits at the end of a movie, doing all of those jobs for free for 6 years, for cost for 3 years, & unfortunately, only doing them for a profit for 1 year.

Those first 6 years was a result of loving my craft, the next 3 was the result of a need to pay bills, & my most recent year was the result of understanding the value that my skills can provide for people, & demanding payment for what that is truly worth.

As of now, the story of my small business relies heavily on my belief that ANYONE can create whatever life they want if they work as hard as it takes them to make it happen in their personal situation, & if they truly believe that it’s possible to do so.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Two words: FELLINIS PIZZA.

Now that we’ve determined food for the week, I will say, some of my best friends from school always got together at this Irish pub called fado for drinks after class, which was always a cool environment to talk & relax.

I sure do miss those guys.

I spend a little too much time in my office nowadays, but there was one weekend where a bunch of independent musicians got together in someone’s house and put together a super intimate concert in the living room featuring one of my favorite artists, Wiley from Atlanta.

If people still do this, send me the address.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have contributed to my journey towards entrepreneurship.

I want to shout out:

My parents, for raising me to be exactly who I am.

My brother, & sister for being the firsts to acknowledge my passions.

My friends, who are still around & have hyped me up since my first venture in the creative space.

My girlfriend, for helping me realize my potential & always pushing me beyond what I thought I was capable of.

& God, for calling me to my purpose, & providing everything I need to serve that purpose during my time on Earth.
