We had the good fortune of connecting with Tk Burtin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tk, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I feel if you do not take risk, you could potentially miss out on bigger opportunities out there for you. No one has gotten ahead by simply limiting their risk. I am not one that is afraid to take risk, matter of fact some of my greatest risk have gotten me to where I am today. I took a chance by moving to Atlanta, I took another chance by quitting my job to take on a new career strictly for the experience, I took another chance by starting a business and deciding to fund without investors. The risk I have taken have molded me into the take charge, strong woman I am today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Red Hazel is a woman and minority owned whiskey brand. Inspired by the culture of whiskey and the potential to add versatility to the industry, our brand is a rye whiskey with a hint of spice. Red Hazel embodies the passion and fire blended with the patience and calm necessary to achieve one’s wildest dreams. The Red Hazel team worked diligently to design not only a rye whiskey deserving of home bars, but cocktails specially created to excite taste buds. It’s tough to pinpoint what I am most proud or excited about, I would say that I am most excited to build this brand with my brother, introduce a new way to enjoy whiskey while not missing out on the taste, and creating a cocktail recipe book to accompany our product to be released in December 2020. This journey has not been easy for us as we are funding the business on our own and creating a brand-new product. This journey continues to teach us something new every day, including state to state laws surrounding alcohol. I want the world to know that this is not your average whiskey brand and everyone of legal drinking age can enjoy it. Red Hazel officially released in October 2020, and currently delivers to 20+ states. This is the first of many brands to come from the Red Hazel family.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting the first place we would visit is Scotch Bonnet to grab some good Caribbean food. Then we would head down to the Beltline to ride scooters while enjoying the scenery and art. Then, we would take 3 days to go up to the wineries in Dahlonega and enjoy a daily hike at a different waterfall each day before heading to the vineyards. We would just chill and have brunch at home the next day to further catch up on all thing’s life. The next night we would visit a comedy club to enjoy some laughs and good food, we love good food lol. In my view, some of the most fun things to do are simply to get out to enjoy the nature and scenery surrounding the city and visit the local restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A few people that deserve a shout out are my parents & friends, my fiancé Josh, my brother & Co-Founder Ty Burtin, my best friend Ashley, and my friend & marketing specialist Chanel. These individuals have pushed and support me since day one, even on the craziest most stressful days, they are there.
